Beginning at a point where the North line of Ridgeway Street in the town of Hermiston intersects with the East line of the South west Quarter of the Northwest Quarter of said section, and run ning thence North along the East line of s^id Southwest Quarter of the Northwest Quarter, a dis tance of 200 feet, thence at right angles westerly a distance of 180 feet; thence at right angles South a distance of 2Oo feet to the North line of said Ridgeway street; thence East a distance of 180 feet along the North line of Ridgeway Street to the place of beginning. The Study club will hold its an nual holiday luncheon at one o'clock, Thursday, Dec. 17, at the home of Mrs. F. B. Stuart. Instead of ex changing gifts, as has been the cus tom, each member is asked to bring a glass of jelly or jam, which will be sent to the Doernbecker hospital in Portland. After a short program the afternoon will be devoted to mak Ing scrap books for the hospital. The committee for thia occasion is Mrs. C. M. Jump, Mrs. J. M. Richards and Mrs. F. A. Baker. The Pollyannas will meet Wed., Dec. 16. when Mrs. G. E. Greathouse will be hostess at her home. The Home Economics club will be entertained Tuesday. Dec. 15. at the home of Mrs. Wm. Fredrickson for a regular business meeting and elec tion of officers. Miss Irene Attebury is improving after an operation for appendicitis in Pendleton. Irene will return Sun day to her home near Stanfield. Grange members and their friends will enjoy an evening of dancing in the Grange hall Friday, Dec. 11. Miss Elaine Green, student nurse at St. Anthony's hospital, will visit over the week end with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. F. S. Mr. and Mrs. Tom Bogan of Eu gene were week end guests at the home of Mr. and Mrs. J. F. Bogan. Tom is now in the employ of the rail road company at Eugene. Wm. Barnum and Carl Lindner who have been doing carpenter work on-the Coe dairy ranch for the past two months will return to Portland Monday. Mrs. J. F. Bogan has returned to Stanfield after having spent two months with her daughter, Mrs. E. Longhary of Omak, Wash. Several hundred turkeys are be ing dressed this week for the Port land markets and the local turkey pool. The Grange 4-H club committee assisted by club leaders will spon sor a cooked food sale at Refvem’s store Saturday, Dec. 12. The pro ceeds will be used to purchase a tro phy for the outstanding cooking or sewing club. Jenkins of Toledo 350 extra on his crop of Bortfield turn ips this fall, he reports. Last spring Mr. Jenkins drilled 400 pounds of superphosphate along the rows of 2 ’A acres of the turnips after they were grown up, leaving an untreated check plot. The treated ground this fall yielded 33 tons per acre, while the check plot produced anly 20 tóns. He estimated his total increase on the 2U acres at 25 tons valued at 32 per ton. The superphosphate was part of a 13,350 order pooled for 46 different persons in 13 communi ties of Lincoln county last spring by County Agent M. J. Conklin. Portland, CLASS "A” CANYON CITY— The effectiveness of Calcium Chlorate in eradicating mint has been proved by experiments on two Grant county ranches, ac cording to R. G. Johnson, county agent. In 1930 P. J. Finlan of Prai rie City sprayed mint with this che mical with such success that this year Oliver Brothers sprayed a large patch on their ranch at John Day.
