The debate with Heppner that was to be held Wednesday has been post poned until Monday night, February 24, on account of the flu epidemic that has beon going around. The Judges will be Frank C. Kirkpatrick, principal at Echo, W. W. Kelty, prin cipal at Stanfield, and C. Hoisington, principal at Irrigon. TUe Judges at Heppner will be Mrs. Lucy E. Rog ers, county superintendent of Mor row county, Mrs. Frank Turner, sup erintendent of Lexington grade school and Mr. A. Bechdolt, teacher In Lexington high school. A second debate will be held Tueeday, Febru ary 25 but It is not known whom we will debate. The schools enter ing this debate are Mac HI, Hermis ton, Hleppner, Umatilla, Pilot Rock and Pendleton. Saturday night the boys team will meet the Peninsula Park Aces of Portland on our own floor. If those Aces play as the other Portland team did our team will have another ”le- tory to our credit. Cecil Mad den, would like to know what the people of the community think of this Idea, so a sheet of paper will be left in the Herald office and all those in terested will put down their names and give as far as possible a rough estimate of the different things they wish to can and the probable amounts of each. They expect to begin opera tion, If such a cannery la desired in Hermiston. In time to take care of low priced asparagus. The following plans have been out lined: 1. To place In each store room of the project a cheap supply of canned vegetables, canned as well and as safely as any commercial product on the market. 2. When John Paxton was returning from a trip to Hermiston Wednes day of last week he was struck by a Portland car and knocked off the ;rade at a point about three miles west of Umatilla. Mr. Paxton es caped without injury but hla car was badly demolished. Friends here were sorry to hear of ¿he illnes of the entire family of our county agent Mr. Charles Smith. Mr. Smith expects to be with us on Tuesday in the Interests ot club work. Tho two Aldrlck families who pur chased the Chas. Glascow and Jess Badger places recently arrived here Wednesday.
