The Abrams well No. 1 of Texas produces >5,000,000 worth of oil in one
year ending July 20 of this year and is still flowing 800 barrels per day.
The State of Oregon used In the month of July 525,000 gallons of gas and
oil which means at that rate Oregon pays out >18,000.000 a year for gas
and oil. This is three times the amount of the wheat crop of Umatilla coun
ty on an investment of millions of dollars.

ing of the seat sale for the 1921
Round-Up, to be staged in Pendleton
September 22, 23 and 24. Already
demands are pouring In to the Round
Up headquarters and the number of
advance orders is unprecedented In
the history of the big show. A sec
tion in the grandstand and three
boxes have been ordered by the Ore
gon Journal for the 300 guests who
as members of the annual “Journal

Round-Up Association with Charles

ADVENTISTS ARE BUILDING
NEW CHURCH AT BOARDMAN
The Adventists are building a new
church at Boardman. The frame Is
already up. It will be 24 by 36
feet in size.
H. L. Rudy,’who is associated with
Elder Watson in the tent services
here returned from a visit at Board-
man Tuesday. He will conduct the
services there for the time being.

Charles Ray Is one young man
who hasn’t come to a bad end as the
result of not following his father's
advice. Even as a youngster Charlie
wanted to be an actor. Matters came
to such a crisis that the day follow
ing Charlies’ graduation from high
school, Papa Ray took him to one
side and spoko as follows:
”1 want to see you make your way
In the world. Very few actors ever
do that. They arc out of work most
ot the time. When they do find work
they sleep In Cheap hotels and board
ing houses and borrow money to pay
their board bills and wear celluloid
collars to save laundry bills In New
York they stand on rite curb and
chew toothpicks and flirt with the
ladies who pass by. But I’ll tell
you what I’lll do with you Charlie.
You go to college and I’ll pay the
bills. Then if at the end ot four
years If you still want to be an act
or, I’ll say, ‘Go ahead’.”
Charles agreed. His college career
over, he came home and showed his
dad his diploma.
"Now I’m ready to go on the
,tage,” said the graduate.
The elder Ray Is a man of hts
word. Charles made his debut In a
small part at Hooley’s Theatre. Chi
cago. One night, without his son
being aware of It, Mr. Ray came to
town and watched Charles from a
seat In the bulcony. At the end of
the show, he went “back stage” and
shook hands with the boy.
“ You were right, son,” he said.
"You’ll be a star some day.”
And so he Is. His latest film
vehicle Is "Paris Green," which Is
coming next Friday and Saturday.
