Idle dollars may represent value but they have no value to their owners nor the com munity until they are put in motion. BUY A BARREL OF FLOUR The movement has been fostered by the County Farm Bureau to buy a barrel of flour, and buy it now. The reason is this: Flour has about reached its lowest price fot some time to come. Wheat is down to its lowest level and in the last few days has commenced to climb the lad der again, due to the fact that for eign traders have purchased enough flour and wheat at the low price to make the commodity a scarce article next spring. Big buyers have been quick to realize this, and the price began to go up at once. Another reason for buying a bar rel of flour is to make the article sell now, so mills can begin grind ing; so farmers can sell their wheat; so they will have money enough tc buy a bale of hay to feed their flocks Buying a barrel of flour will have its effect on us, the same as it will in Pendleton. When the Pendleton farmers are prosperous, they buy oui hay. The idea is a very good one. and our local people should take ad vantage of it, and DO IT NOW. BUY A BARREL OF FLOUR. Today there is a pleasant and profitable job for every dollar in the land. Homes are needed—homes which will make better citizens, better neighborhoods, a better town—homes which will con tribute indirectly to the welfare of every man, woman and child in this community. Loans for home-building are good investments. You can select your loan and keep in close touch with it. HANDLE WITH CARE We shall be glad to furnish further in- formation. Tum-A-Lum Lumber Co R. A. As is the child of today, so is the man or woman of tomorrow. There are few exceptions to this rule. Giving the child an education, a good suit, a few dollars and sending, it out Into the world to battle for ex istence will not suffice. Parents owe a more sacred duty to their of fspring. The child is entitled to health, to an acute conception of right and wrong, and to the cultivation of per severance, forbearance and mercy. With these attributes freely incul cated In its mind, body and heart, it will not stray far on the forbidden path of life. • No person is normal without good health, and the great achievements or the world are accomplished by nor mal men and women. Athletics in the schools Is one of the best producers of health, and it is the duty of citizens of this com munity to see that our school chil dren have a place to play their games with proper training facilities. The other attributes follow in their natural sequence, and the lessons are. better understood and more freely assimilated because of a healthy state of mind and body. The Stanfield Standard has found it necessary to enlarge its paper, and the last issue came out as a seven column four page paper instead of six columns as before. We congrat ulate the Standard and Mr. Cleve land, the enterprising editor and proprietor, for its snappy, newsy ap pearance, and wish the paper and Mr. Cleveland every success. ===== ■ ............. : = == i We are showing a few choice patterns of the CELEBRATED Pendleton Indian Robes Just .the thing for Christmas Presents There are three fundamental principles that regulate building costs: L ABOR COSTS SUPPLY 2 DEMAND The laboring man’s standard of living is steadily im proving and he will not be content to accept smaller wages under existing conditions. The big metropolitan dailies may influence national affairs some but it is the country community that de termines things. I Many people have formed the hab it of merely scanning the headlines of the big city dailies, while smaller papers are read through. In the recent election the contest was between an extension of state socialism and real Americanism, big city papers boosting socialism. The small city and country press is patriotic and conservative, and does not rush hostilities with other countries that lead to war. There are big metropolitan papers that would force our country into war with Mexico and Japan for what they could make out of it.
