McKenzie delivered an address of itelcome to the visitors, which was Kbly responded to by A. E. Westcott, president of the Oregon Dairymen’s Association. Further addresses were delivered by R. L. Sabin and M. S. ■brock to the fairly large audience In attendance. I Friday morning Old Sol dispelled the preceding gloom, and the Show went merrily on. Early yesterday a lour of the project was made with visiting dairymen under the guid ance of members of the local Dairy Association, and on their return the stock parade took place. During the afernoon there were 'addresses by three well known Western Oregon men, and in the evening at the Au- ditorium the school band rendered exceptional music and all enjoyed the moving picture show. I The School Industrial exhibits are magnificent, and is said to be one of the best ever put on in the coun- ty. The awarding of prizes was made too late for this issue of The Her- ald, and the young winners are ex- luttant over their success yesterday as up-to-date farmers. I Today, Saturday, is the gala day. With a good program starting at 10 a. m.. vocal music will be rendered by the school quartette, followed by talks on live subjects by outside dairymen. At 8 p. m. the visiting dairymen will be banqueted by the local dairymen at the Hotel Hermis- ton. A dance will also take place in the Auditorium. FORMER RESIDENT IS KILLED BY TRAIN R. C. Canfield, residing on the project near Hermiston, received a message Thursday evening stating that his brother-in-law, E. E. Mc- Millen, was struck by train No. 4 on the Northern Pacific and in- stantly killed at Byron. Washington. Reclamation Men Visit Morris Bean, assistant to the di rector of the reclamation service, visited this project the latter part of last week. While here he was the guest of Project Manager H. M. Schilling. Business men of this city got up a banquet at the Hotel Oregon in his honor Friday night of last week, at which were represen- tative business men of Stanfield. The crux of a speech made at that time by the gentleman was that all irrigation interests all over the United States should line up for a unanimous de mand on Congress for the develop- ment of the general resources of the whole country. Then on Tuesday Will R. King, chief counsel for the U. S. R. S„ F. E. Weymouth, chief of construc tion, and H. L. Holgate, district counsel located at Portland, came and looked over the project and con sulted with the project manger on matters pertaining to this irrigation district. Judge King also held a meeting with Attorney J. T. Hinkle, who is local counsel for the recla mation service. Hermiston has a visitor in the person of John Beasley, who fifty years ago was one of the many well known cattle buyers in Eastern Oregon. At that time he was locat ed at Pilot Rock, and quite frequen- tty in those days he consorted with Bob Stanfield, then just making a start for the goal of millionaire sheep man he has now attained.
