His selection came after the resignation of the former clerk, Mr. O’Sullivan, who has moved with his family to anoth er part of the state. A Nice Affair The dance held in Umatilla Thursday evening by Carmen’s Lodge No. 672 of that city d rew a large crowd from all the nearby towns, Hermiston being well repre sented at the affair. A grand time is reported, and all were pleased with the hospitality they received at the hands of the lodge’s members and also were delighted to have the opportunity to once again attend a dance where programs with the dance numbers thereon were used. NOTICE Mr. John Naze, known on the western coast as a farm machinery expert for many years and whose entire life has been devoted to specializing in farm machinery, will be in Hermiston for one week beginning Saturday morning. May 3. 1919. Mr. Naze comes to Hermiston to go into detail with farmers on the merits of the famous Johnston Alfalfa Mowers and Rakes, and if you have either of these imple ments in mind for this year or some future time, come in during the week beginning Saturday. May 3rd, with the exception of Wednesday and Thursday, May 7th and 8th. as on those two days Mr. Naze will be in Boardman. Moved His Tailor Shop Jack White, who for the past few years has conducted a tailoring, cleaning and pressing establishment a.few doors east of the bank on Main street, moved the contents of the shop Wednesday to a house he has been occupying across the alley back of the telephone exchange building, The quarters vacated by him will be occupied in a few days by Sam Rodgers, who recently ac- quired the building by purchase. and in which he will move his stock of shoes as soon as he has had the place renovated and plate glass front put in. Purchased Barber Shop A. W. Thomas, who for the past few weeks has held a position in the Pioneer Barber Shop, has become owner of the place by purchase from Frank J. Auseon. He is a young man of pleasing disposition. and will no doubt receive a fail share of patronage. F. J. Thomas. who formerly operated the shop, is now busily engaged attending to his ranch east of town.
