McKenze returned a short business trip to Pendleton. William Shaar returned Tuesday morning from a short visit with friends in Colfax. George C. Leathers, returned with her neice to her home in Pendleton Sunday after a pleasent visit at the Leathers ranch home in Columbia district. Miss Irene Boone returned to her home in Portland Wednesday at the conclusion of a delightful visit of a month at the home east of town of her cousin, Mrs. W. A. Leathers. George Holland left Monday for Portland, where he expects to secure employment as a street car conductor or moterman. Should there be no va cancy in that line, he will enter the shipyards. E M. Barnett, one of the old timers now residing in Portland, was here Sunday and Monday looking over bls partly improved 45 acre tract south- west of town that George Parson is taking care of forhim. The ladies of the Baptist Aid will serve dinner both days of the stock show, in the basement of the Baptist church. Their excellent dinners and moderate prices have always gained for them a liberal patronage. B. W. Graham, who has been visit ing with relatives in Tacoma, Wash., and Portland, returned Wednesday to the parental home in Columbia dis trict. He says business is exceedingly brick in both coast towns visited. The Baptist Ladies’ Aid held their annual meeting at the home of Mrs. West and the following officers were elected: Mrs. West, president; Mrs. Mumma; secretary; Mrs. Ed. Bensel, treasurer. The president chooses her own vice-president. Special meeting of Girls Honor Guard Monday evening, Oct. 14, at 7:30 p. m., in basement of library. Graham, who last week bad to cease work on the bay baler on ac count of a very sore chest, went to Pendleton Monday and underwent ex- amination. It developed that he had a rib dislocated in his left side, but how or when thia was done Ed. is unable to tell. B. W. Smith, who sold his ranch northwest of town last week to G. H Gould of Gateway, Ore., is one of the real old timers of the project, having located here in 1907. He has not as yet male up bis mind where he will move to, but is thinking some of going to Seattle. Miss C. Albrecht, who residea with her sister, Mrs. Anna Sapper, at the latter’s ranch home in Columbia dis. trict, has been very 111 the past two weeks. Mrs Otto Sapper has spent the past week al the bedside of the lady ministering to her under the doc- tor's direction. Dr. ard Mrs. J. A. Peed, who were recently united io marriage in the east, arrived in Hermiston Monday after a three weeks' honeymoon trip through various middle and western stales. Since his return Dr. Peed has resumed his veterinary practice and Is again operating his auto for hire. Spanish influenza has invaded the Mare Island training camp, according io a letter received this week by the parents of Louis Garner, with the re sult the whole Island has been placed under quarantine. The young man stated in the letter that he was just recovering from a mild attack of measles. A couple of young honkers that had evidently strayed early fron the north to this more agreeable clime were bagged Tuesday by B F. Knapp and M D. O Connell. The geese were on their way from the feeding grounds to the Columbia river. Flying low, they were good targets for thé two bunters.
