The Methodist Ladies Aid will hold a regular work meeting at Mrs. Gunn’s Wednesday afternoon of next week. A. T. Drolshagen, a north of town rancher, returned Monday afternoon from a business trip to Lexington, Oregon. Mr. J. H Strohm, bead of the local Red Cross, visited with the Red Cross ladies in Pendleton Wednesday and Thursday. Mr. and Mrs. H. T. Fraser went to Pendleton Thursday, where Mrs. Fraser will receive treatment at St. Anthony’s hospital. Mrs L Reeder is recovering nicely from her recent operation, and her many friends hope to see her able to be about again io a short time. Mrs. Jack Smith of Irrigan passed a pleasant couple of days here the first of the week visiting with her father, C. Chamberlain, and sister, Mrs. T. D. Worster. Mr. and Mrs. W. R. Longhorn came home from Pendleton Thursday even- ing, the lady having been there most of the week undergoing a minor oper aton at the hospital in that city. Six candidates were initiated into the mysteries of the local order of Rebekahs last evening. Stanfield’s excellent degree team put on the work, after which all enjoyed a big banquet. C. H Crandall, who for ten years has been janitor of the local school, and In fact the only janitor the district has ever had, relinquished the job Thursday and is now preparing to go on bis 80 acre ranch near Umatilla. HERMISTON, OREGON. Mrs. J. 8. West passed a pleasant day Monday in Echo visiting with her son Newel, who holds the position of telegraph operator in the O.-W. R A N. offices in that city. Earl Boynton, stationed at U. S naval station at San Diego, Cal., left yesterday to resume his duties in the navy after enjoying a week’s visit with bis parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. S. Boyn ton, in this city. James Eddie, wbo operates a ranch a few miles north of Hermiston, re ceived a letter from Scotland last week advising him of the death of his brother John, who was a large mer chant in the city of Glasgow. The committee of the Umatilla war council in this district precinct is com posed of Mayor F. C. McKenzie, F. B. Swayze and Thomas Campbell, all of whom were at the organization of the council in Pendleton Friday of last week.
