Shafer, of the extensive bee firm of Davis A Shafer, recently re ceived a shipment of queen bees from San Jose, Calif., following which came another from Andalusia, Pa. These are secured for the purpose of build ing up the large string which he now has. Six came from San Jose, and are of the Golden Italian variety, and the six he received from Andalusia are called the Caucasian bee. Contractors Beisse, Bettinger and Callbeck were in Stanfield Wednes day bidding on the Fruit Growers’ association warehouse to be built there shortly. They were in com petition with contractors from Port land and other places, and the blds when opened were found to be very close together. All were rejected, however, and a new set of plans for- mulated, the idea being to lower the cost of construction somewhat. Fifty thousand dollars will be ex- pended by Pendleton in putting on the 1917 Round-Up, September 20 21 and 22, which insures the very best in contests, horses, steers, performers and contests worth seeing. Special Pullman trains have already been en gaged and will come from Portland, Spokane and St: Paul. The attend ance will be equal to if not greater than 1916. The railroads have granted the usual special rate of one and one third fare from all points in the north- west. The railroad officials assure the management there will be no fall ing off in attendance and the only question with them is whether or not ' they will be able to furnish the equip ment.
