The members thereof are striving to attain a degree of excellence which will make of it not only a credit to this wide awake city, but to the whole county as well. The band boys should be encouraged, even in a pecuniary way, by residents of this project, for there is noth ing better than a good band to give local color to a community. The Fourth of July celebration at Pendleton proved an utter fail- ure, and was a fiasco in every sense of the word—so sayeth the Pendleton daily papers and all the people who attended from here and all over the county, Naturally, many feel that those responsible for pulling off such a rank affair should, in a literal sense, be hung, drawn and quar tered. It is said that about the only redeeming feature was the stirring patriotic address deliver- ed by Justice H. L. Benson of the supreme court. If Pendle- tonians want to witness a real celelebration—one absolutely void of fraud—they had better lay off their stuff and come to Hermis ton next Fourth of July, join in the festivities and see and learn something of one of the most prosperous irrigated districts in the state.
