Sam A. Koxer, th e efficient sec re ta ry for several term s, could not be a candidate for renom ination. If he had been it would have been u seless for anyone to have run ag a in st him. T his left th e office open and th ree candidates filed on th e republican ticket. Hoss, a new spaper m an of thorough ex p e rt ence and excellent c h a racter, for m any years th e faith fu l an d ef ficient secretary of the sta te edi to rial association, for m ore th an a y ear p rivate se creta ry to G overnor P atterso n , becam e a candidate. It was logical th a t the ru ra l press should alm ost unanim ously su p p o rt him. A drivew ay has been cu t through the heavy d rifts of the McKinzie pass and autos a re now using the highw ay. The C rater Lake road is now cleared to w ithin th re e m iles of Anna Springs cam p on the w est ern side and the road at the rim is expected to be open before the m eeting a t the lake of the C alifor nia E ditorial association on Ju n e 22.
