One of th e se is Judge G eorge R ossm an, a can d idate to succeed him self. From th e tim e of his appointm ent to th e m unicipal bench of th e city of P o rtlan d in 1917, follow ing sev e ra l y ears of successful law p ra c tice, his rise h a s been rap id and each advance gained on recognized ab ility and hard work. I n . 1922 he w as appointed to till a vacancy in th e c irc u it co u rt of M ultnom ah county. At the next election he r e ceived one of th e la rg e st votes ever ca st in favor of a circu it judge. On S eptem ber 12, 1927, he w as appointed by G overnor P a tte r son to th e suprem e c o u rt bench. Ju d g e R ossm an is a stu d e n t of law of high stan d in g and recog-1 nized ability, an a u th o rity on m any ph ases of legal in te rp re ta tio n . He h as an an a ly tica l m ind, is a keen stu d e n t of hum an n a tu re and is an in d efatigable w orker. T he sim plification and speeding up of higher c o u rt procedure has been a hobby w ith Ju d g e R ossm an and since his elevation to th e su prem e bench he has cooperated th o ro ughly w ith new ru le s w hich have m ade rem a rk a b le p ro g ress in clea rin g th e docket of old cases. In stea d of hearin g cases th re e and four y ea rs old, th e suprem e co u rt soon w ill be listening to c u rre n t cases, none over th re e m onths old. It is said to his cred it th a t during his occupancy of th e c irc u it bench Ju d g e R ossm an w as never reversed in a crim inal, divorce or perso n al in ju ry case.
