We have seen some m aterial ch an g es in our com m unity, b u t for th e m ost p a rt we are not different from a year ago. The H and of th e U nseen has tak en a la rg e to ll from o u r com m unity during th e p ast th re e m onths, and th e re a re eight v acant places in our m idst, w hich w ere tilled by kindly neighbors and friends a t the happy Yuletide of 1926. But so m ust it ever he so long as m an dw elieth on th is earth. T he social life of our com m unity ce n ters around th e two church o r ganizations, th e M ethodist and B aptist—the Rev. Oliver Gill is the p o p u lar p asto r of th e form er, ta k ing up his w ork h ere at th e be ginning of the conference year. He and his wife a re domiciled in th e n eat and com fortable home w hich is th e p ro p erty of th e church. T he B ap tist ch u rch has been w ithout a p asto r since th e Rev. Wm. F airw ea th er tendered his resig n atio n in A ugust, b ut services a re m aintained each Sunday by su p p lies from th e new B aptist sem in a ry in P ortland. T he social activ ities of the O rient school a re ca rrie d on m ostly th ro u g h th e P aren t-T each er o rg an ization, of w hich Mrs. Mary P e te r son is the very efficient president. MOTORISTS! A nother social o rganization is the M ultnom ah G range. T his is the I second oldest g ran g e in M ultnom ah i county being first organized in 1877 in E ast P o rtlan d , a la te r re- j organization tak in g place in the I sp rin g of 1889 a t O rient.
