Enlargement of High School Is Planned Continued from page 1 equipm ent, c u rta il th e helpful a c tivities of th e school. It may be th a t th e im m ediate overcrow ded condition is brought about by th e num ber of outside p u pils, b ut if th ese w ere excluded th e school would in a sh o rt tim e need to im prove and en larg e its capacity and facilities for the good of its rig h tfu l students. The school is on th e up grad e w ith a p restig e equal to th e very best in th e state. It will lose much by a backw ard step. On the oth er hand w ith an In crease to 500 s tu dents It will be in line for a very likely developm ent in w hich th e sta te w ill ren d er financial and oth er aid. So say those who study closely th e educational tren d of high schools. Improvements Proposed. T he board h as had carefu l e sti m ates m ade as to th e cost of the proposed im provem ents. They are as follow s: For re p a irs and ch an g in g the present assem bly hall into class rooms, $10,000. F or class room s in th e new wings $48,000. For new assem bly hall, ea st of th e p resen t building, having a ca pacity for 1200 stu d en ts, $25,000. For addition of new boiler, etc., to heating p lan t, $10,000. For rem oval of bungalow , old gym and p resen t boiler room, $7,000. For needed ex tra equipm ent, $5,000. The arc h itec ts are F reem an & S truble, of Salem , well known school arch itects. The addition of th e new class room s will give a capacity for 600 students, according to Mr. Cannon, which he estim ates, a t the p resen t ra te of grow th the d istric t will have in four or five y ea rs if It is prepared for them. More ( ongressinen Nil! Congress has been live y ears tr y ing to reapportion rep resen tatio n of Its m em bership. A fter every F ederal census the congress has hab itu ally Increased the num ber of rep resen tativ es, anil consequently the num ber of congressional d is tric ts. Tills has been done in p ro portion to the N ation's population. In l u l l th is process brought the house to th e unw ieldly size of 435 m em bers. Consequently when it w as proposed in 1921 to add an o th er Hock of 50 or 60 congressm en th e re was “nothing doing.” To equalize the rep rese n tatio n am ong the sta te s someone now proposes a plan that would give 12 sta te s a gain w hile 16 sta te s would lose. The chan ces a re th at th e re will lie no reup p o rtio n m en t until after the 1930 cen su s is taken. HIGH SCHOOL NOTES Owing to th e fact th a t th e T ro u t- dale.
