E vans In th e circu it co u rt a few days
ago Mrs. Mary P eterson, of Gillis, will
regain possession of her prem ises
th e re w hich she had leased to Solo­
mon K aucher. He had rented the
place for five years, but had become in
a rre a rs for th e re n t and had failed to
m ake o th er im provm ents around the
p ro p erty w hich he had promised.
W hen it w as attem pted to evict him,
he resisted and m ade every effort to
rem ain in possession of the ranch, ac­
cording to evidence brought out at the
trial.
The case first cam e up in justice
co u rt in Ju ly , but on account of the
disputed title to the place, it w as nec­
essary to certify the litigation to the
circ u it court. By th e decision of the
judge, the defendant will be forced to
vacate a t once. W. J. Cooper re p re ­
sented Mrs. P eterso n in co u rt and the
case for Mr. K aucher was handled by
A ttorney Dan K enny, of P ortland.
A lthough th e re w as a ju ry present.
Judge E vans gave a direct verdict, as
th e evidence was clearly In favor of
the plaintiff.
A useful life cam e to a peaceful
close som etim e during S atu rd ay night
when Roy Stone, aged 44 years, passed
aw ay during sleep from chronic h eart
trouble. He had been an invalid for
many y ea rs but, n evertheless, had
been active in com m unity and civic a f­
fairs and leaves a host of friends. Mr.
S tone’s home was at Fairview w here
he leaves a widowed m other, Mrs.
Eliza Stone, two b ro th ers, Clyde and
Cedric H„ and a sister, Mrs. Lena
Anderson.
The deceased w as a m em ber of the
Fairview city council and six of th a t
hotly acted as p allb ea re rs a t th e fu ­
neral w hich was held th is afternoon at
2 o ’clock at th e Sm ith M emorial P re s­
b y terian church. He w as also a m em ­
ber of th e F airview gran g e and th a t
body officiated in th e services at the
grave. He w as buried In the Masonic
cem etery at P ark Rose. T he Rev. E.
R. D. H ollensted preached th e funeral

by Mrs. K. J. H agberg, accom panied
by Miss M artha H agberg. Mrs. G us­
tafson's m other, Mrs. A ugusta Palm -
blail, sang a song of her own com po­
sition and Mrs. G radln gave a reading
which she had composed. The Rev. ().

tilting rem ark s. T hree ladles who
were the bridesm aids at th e wedding
25 years ago w ere p resen t and served
again Sunday at the silver wedding.
They w ere Mrs. R ichard G ustafson,
Mrs. E rick E rickson and Mrs. C. Ahl-
quist. L ittle P au lin e M agnuson acted
as flower girl. T h e couple w as p re ­
sented w ith a handsom e set of silv er­
ware, the gift of friends and relatives,
also the eight children gave th e ir p a r­
ents a set of china. A num ber w ere
p resen t from P o rtlan d and Tigard.
A b azaar will be given by th e Home
and Foreign M issionary society a t the
Saron L u th eran ehurah on S atu rd ay
evening Septem ber 25, beginning a t 8
o’clock. Coffee and cake will be se rv ­
ed. T hose who have article s out to be
finished are requested to get them to
th e church before the b azaar begins.
Mrs. H. P. C h ristensen and her
dau g h ter, Mrs. Mary G ander, w ith the

from San Diego a sh o rt tim e ago to
spend a week or so visiting relativ es
and friends.

T he Powell Valley («lining club
team , com posed of T re lla Howell and
F ran ces E kstrom , will d em o n strate on
the first day of the sta te fair at Salem
next Monday, Septem ber 27. This
team will com pete for th e sta te ch am ­
pionship with team s from various
counties of the state. It will be the
first attem p t of th is team to com pete
at th e sta te fair, but several yearH ago,
u nder th e leadership of Mrs. A lta G en­
try . th e Powell V alley canning club
won th e sta te cham pionship.
