by the N ational L ivestock and Meat
Board th e re has been, during th e past
y ear a m arked in crease in th e con­
sum ption of beef, veal, lam b and m u t­
ton and a d ecrease in th e consum ption
of pork.
T he average person in th e United
S tates consum ed a to tal of 154.3
pounds of all m eats for th e year, or
n early one-half pound a day, ac co rd ­
ing to the b o ard 's ch airm an .
He
p oints o ut th a t th is am ount is g re a te r
by about four pounds th a n th e a v e r­
age per cap ita consum ption com puted
for th e en tire period since federal
m eat inspection was in stitu ted in 1907.
T he am ount of beef consum ed by
th e individual _ w as placed a t 63.1
pounds. A ttention is called to th e fact
th a t w ith the exception of one year.
1918, th is is th e la rg e st consum ption
of beef since 1912. T he in crease over
1924 was about one-half a pound.
