OUR B U SIN E SS has enjoyed a large increase during the past year, for which we wish to thank our patrons and friends. Troutdale Revives After Disastrous Fire. Since the last C hristm as issue nt th e G resham Outlook T rou td ale has ex perienced quite a grow th of business prosperity. On .May 15 a tire broke out which left the main stre e t in ruins, but on Ju n e 15, ju st one m onth a fte r the tire, actu al work w as sta rted on reb u ild ing the burned area and, as the new buildings are all of concrete and in every way superio r to those burned, everyone feels th a t afte r all the tire was a blessing ip disguise. Many New B uildings E rected. J. A. L arsso n 's new garag e com p ares with any in point of c o n stru c tion and appearance. It is a 50 x 100 solid concrete building with tru ss roof, and is very com m odious for sto rage, and m odern in every respect. T here are rest room s for to u rists and the building Is a g reat addition to the town. T he postofflce building is also of concrete and is furnished with a tine new box system . Fine living q u a rte rs have been built in connection with the office in which are housed P ostm aster J. S. H udson and family. N. 8. Long is domiciled in his new building on the site of the old one, and has in connection w ith his con fectionery business hotel accom m o dations. T here is also a new sto re for rent In this building. A very g rea t im provem ent Is noticed In the rem odeling of the form er S ur- ber home. T his property was p u r chased by Chas. F unke and m ade over into a very a ttra c tiv e place. On S aturday, December 5. Milton Fox opened his new sto re building Just west of his old location and served coffee, cake and Ice cream to his p atro n s during the day. T he old hrlck building owned by the W elnhard estate, which w as badly dam aged in th e tire, has tak en on a new appearance. T he w hole second story has been taken off and the build ing rem odeled Into four sto res, the co rn er store being already rented for a drug store. At the w est end of town L. V. C al kins has an up-to-date m eat m ark et w here he sells th e best, inspected m eats. He delivers prom ptly and ainiH to satisfy Ills patro n s with the best in his line. Many new homes have sp ru n g up in th is vicinity during the year. H. C. McGinnis and fam ily are en joying (her new home built Just south of the new home of his brother, H arry McGinnis. Beyond these homes on the north Is the new home of Mr. Cochran. D. W Mickley erected a sm all cottage adjoining his home w hich is th o ro u g h ly up to date. Bert B arnes also built a very nice house on the hill near his own home. It is a very pretty place and has a sightly location It I). P. com pany's depot, has a new home u nder con stru ctio n and is also erecting some b u llrin g s ad jacen t to th e lum ber yard. Mr. Murphy, in addition to his lu m ber business, has a sto re w ell stocked w ith paints, oils, etc. T ro u td ale N ntiinil Shipping Point. T ro u td ale is a n atu ra l shipping point and each year m any thousands of dollars w orth of shipping is done from th is place. D uring th e b erry sea son the B laser F ru it com pany shipped 12,000 cra te s of berries. T his fall 75 ca r loads of cauliflow er w ere shipped to m any sta te s in the eastern and so u th ern states, ca rs go ing as far east as Maine, and some to F lorida. Tw elve c a rs of cabbages w ere sh ip ped and the celery grow ers sent out 80 carlo ad s of th eir product. Celery Is still being shipped for C h ristm as trade. Many carlo ad s of potatoes w ere se n t out also. A good p rice was realized on all th is produce. Other Ind u stries T h riv e . T he B essinger wool p lan t is running with a good crew* of men. F or a few weeks ea rlie r in the fall th e re was only a sm all force at w ork on account of the scarcity of hides, but business Is norm al again at the p resen t . H. E. Bloyd of th e T ro u td ale S tate hank announces an Increase of one- th ird over th e business of la st year, and ap p reciates the cooperation of the com m unity. THE TROUTDALE POSTOFEH E. The year 1925 has been the batf- ner year for th e T ro u td ale postof flce. The receip ts have g rad u ally been increasing for the last th ree years, but the receipts of th is of fice in 1925 passed the m axim um of the previous years by October 15, 1925. T h erefo re h ea rty th a n k s a re extended to th e p atro n s of the office, and a w ish for a happy, p ro s perous New Year. T he city council of T ro u td ale is active and is doing m uch to b etter conditions in th e com m unity. A room fflr a council cham ber has been fitted up in th e basem ent of th e city hall. Some old buildings w hich w ere fire h azard s and u n sa n ita ry have been condem ned by the council, and will co n tin u e to m ake th e tow n m ore a t tractiv e. An effort Is being m ade to b etter conditions in every way and to keep ab reast of th e developm ent of the tow n. Two or th ree different lines of b u s iness a re co n tem plating locating here in th e near future. T he 20th C entury grocery sto re op era tin g here is doing a very good b u s iness. Mrs. A. Doll ru n s a confectionery and sh o rt o rd er place a t'th e end of the s tre e t ca r line. In the Jack so n tra c t n ear th e Ad vent cam p grounds, four or five new sum m er homes w ere b u ilt d u rin g the year. T hese belong m ostly to P o rt land people who will spend th e ir su m m ers here. K n a rr's gravel pit and brick plant is a busy place at all tim es, sellin g the brick to a la rg e num ber of eastern M ultnom ah p atro n s. They have u n der co n stru ctio n a splendid new bridge w ith co n crete piers over Beav er creek a t the e n tra n ce to th e ir sand pit. The J. O. D avis grocery sto re in the Masonic building is doing th e usual business. The T ro u td ale sa n er k ra u t factory, owned and o p erated by M. Federspiel, has m ade 90 to n s of sau er k ra u t this season. The m e rc h an ts of T ro u td ale have it on sale a t all tim es and it can also be had on th e public m ark et in P ortland. T he Ford agency, under th e m a n agem ent of C. C. Bush, an nounces the sale of 150 c a rs for th e year.
