Herwig, superintendent of the Anti-saloon league, of Oregon, is much gratified over the recent victory of the prohibition forceu in the case of Fred T. Merrill, former proprietor of the Twelve-Mile house, when the United States circuit court of appeals upheld the decision of the district court in its conviction of Merrill, which carried with it a jail sentence of six mouths and a fine of $250 on the charge of violating the prohibition law and maintaining a nuisance. Mr. Herwig of bte court that he wrote a commen datory letter to George Neuner, United States attorney for Oregon, who ar gued the appeal before the appeals court, congratulating him upon the victory won in this case.
