c u ltu ra l condition of th e county so

B a rk e r roads la st S atu rd ay w hen the
Rev. M. V. "Whetzell, who w as driving
a small* tru c k loaded w ith wood, who
is em ployed a t th e Louise Home, w as
cra sh ed into by a S tudebaker to u rin g
c a r headed for P o rtlan d , w ith th e r e
s u lt a baby in th e la tte r w as badly
c u t by flying g lass w hen th e w ind
shield w as broken. Mr. W hetzell s u s
tain ed some dam age to his m achine,
th e re a r w heel being sm ashed and th e
bed of th e tru c k to rn loose from th e
fram e. He w as com ing to G resham
from th e H om e and had tu rn e d from
th e B a rk e r road into th e B ase Line,
w hen th e S tu d eb ak er com ing from
C ascade L ocks stru c k him squarely.
His w indshield w as covered w ith ice
w hich prevented him from seeing th e
o th e r c a r in tim e. He sta te s th a t the
S tu d eb ak er w as tra v e lin g not leas
th a n 30 o r 35 m iles an h o u r, w hich,
co n sid ering th e condition of th e pave
m ent, w as an excessive ra te of speed.

he believes th e re should be no excuse
