such an ex ten t th a t it w as considered
n ecessary to sh o rten th is route. T his
is a m otor ro u te 50.3 m iles in length
and a t th e p re se n t tim e serv es 630
fam ilies. In o rd er to reliev e th e s itu a
tion, a new ro u te h as been a rra n g e d
from P o rtlan d to c a re for th e te rrito ry
betw een Rockwood and th e A scot sec
tion on th e Base L ine and Section
L ine roads. T his new ro u te w ill also
serve w h at is now th e w est end of
R oute 2 from T ro u td ale, Oregon. The
B eaver Bend section, fo rm erly served
from T ro u td ale, w ill be tra n s fe rre d to
T ro u td ale and served by R oute 2. The
nam e of th e G resham ro u te w ill be
changed from R oute A to R oute 2.

T he county w as u n d er th e necessity
of saving th e s tre e t w hich is a county
road. The p ro p erty ow ners appealed
to th e county to m ake as p erm a n en t a
re p a ir as possible. T he stuffing of th e
fill w as en d an g erin g th e w eak fo u nda
tions of som e buildings. T he county,
not being able to se cu re th e co o pera
tion of the p ro p erty ow ners or of th e
city, has gone a t th e im provem ent In
its own way.
T h ere is p rospect now th a t th e w ork
will be com pleted in a few days. T he
