Hypocrisy in governm ent has don't

disrespect for law. W hile it may be
tr u e th a t n atio n al m orals differ com ­
pletely from the code set up for in­
dividuals, th e fact rem ains th a t the
national hypocrite alw ays m ust su f­
fer when th e m ask is to rn off. The
U nited S tates sta n d s today as th e
g re a te st bootlegger in th e world and
th e apotheosis of buncom e. On the
one hand ap p ro p riatin g money for
th e punishm ent of individuals tr a f ­
ficking in liquors, on th e o th e r open­
ly selling booze on A m erican owned
ships, th e governm ent presen ts a
spectacle of hum buggery m ore dan-
gerouB than astounding, for th e re Is
no th in g of news in th e disclosure
th a t A m erican ships have been s e ll­
ing booze outside th e three-m ile
lim it. This is and has been alw ays a
m a tte r of com mon know ledge. The
s ta rtlin g developm ent is giving th e
inform ation officially to th e public,
which has known all about th e co n d i­
tion and w inked « t th e violation
w ithout concern.
