think that all the farmer had to do was to buy a Tractor and he would
enter into the Millennium.
\\ ell, consider this fact—there are a great many different makes
of Tractors. Tractors have been on the American market for twenty
years. In that time some three hundred thousand Tractors have been
sold to the farmers in the United States. The Fordson Tractor has
only been on the market two years, and in that time more than one
hundred thousand Fordson Tractors have been sold to the farmers of
the United States.

The Gresham library was the scene
last night of a farewell reception
which was given In honor of the P rin
cipal Elm er F. Goodwin and Mrs.
j Goodwin, Miss Good, Miss Gregson,
j Miss Webb, Miss Morrison, Miss Hol
man, Miss Montague, Mr. Webb and
MY. Taylor, all of whom are leaving
I the high school for other fields of
I labor. Only four of the old faculty re
main us a nucleus for a new faculty.
The reception had been hastily a r
ranged and doubtless many friends of
the retirin g teachers were unaw are of
the event. However, a good attendance
was present and splendid program of
speeches, reading and mush was given.
Mayor Karl A. Miller presided. He
stated the object of the meeting and
called on Judge Stapleton to speak for
the school hoard. He spoke p articu lar
ly of the substantial growth and de
velopment of the union high school un
der the outgoing adm inistration and of
pride In the splendid student body
which has been built up.
W. C. Lawrence of the school board
voiced Ills regret th at the board is
ham pered by lack of adequate funds
and he gave beautiful trib u te to the
character of Mrs. Goodwin. Mr. Good
win ri'sponded for him self and wife
and for the teachers.
Solos were sung by Miss M artha
Hagborg, C. E. R usher and H. W.
Strong. Miss Frieda Bratzel gave a
piano solo and Mrs. D. M. Donaugh
gave a reading. Punch and wafers were
served by a com mittee of girls.
The fact was brought out In last
nlRht's talks that not only is Union
High School to lose 9 out of 14 teach-
; era. but by an art of the last Legtsla
ture. the term s of office of all mem
bers of the school board will term in
ate nt the end of this school year. Ac-
j cording to the new plan, five members
will constitute the new school board
and they are to be elected at the reg
u lar meeting In June. Candidates will
he required to file th eir petitions pre
vious to the meeting. The election
will be on all candidates nt large, how
ever. only one member will be allowed
In any one school district. Of the five
elected, the one receiving th highest
num ber of votes will hold office for
five years, the one receiving the next
highest num ber will serve for four
years and so on. One member will then
be elected each succeeding year.
