D uring a recent cam paign trip thro u g h Texas Mrs. H arding spoke of these early days of tria l and s tru g gle. “ Pennies were scarce In those days,” Mrs. H arding said with a rem iniscent sm ile, “ but we were— and ever have been— very happy. It was th e S enator's desire to own a new s paper. And I th in k th e m ost mo m entous day In ou r lives was th a t day when he purchased th e Marlon Sta r.” In speaking of h er own am bitions along journ alistic lines, Mrs. H arding said, "I liked to w rite and the girls alw ays w anted me to w rite up th e ir w eddings because they did not recog- 1 I ilz e them selves in print. Driven continuously for seven days ami seven nights, over o rdinary su b urban roadw ays, an O verland 4 slork ca r has established at Indian -ipolls, Ind., a new unofficial w orld's m ileage record for a light car under 16k hours of Incessant driving. T he O verland 4 in the seven days and nights of this rem ark ab le en durance run piled up record of 6,- 461.15 miles. The ca r finished the grind on the sam e Fisk tires with which it sta rted . To m ake this new record, th e d rivers of O verland 4 m aintained an average speed of 32% miles nn hour, 24 hours a day. G as oline m ileage was 20.24 miles a g a l lon. The consistency of O verland 4 per form ance is shown in tills tabulation of each day's run. The first day and night, the speedom eter registered 749 miles. On the second day, the m ark was 778 m iles; on th e th ird , ) 747 m iles; on th e fourth. 793;’ fifth, 808; sixth, 823. and on the last lap of the new unofficial w orld's record. 763 miles. The test, the first of its kind to be 1 tried and actually HfcoiupliHhed by. a light car, sta rte d nt 9 a m. on Feb ruary 25th anil ended at 9 a, m. on March 3d.
