The teams, which have grown since last year, made a strong first impres- sion, showcasing incredible determination and skill across eight challenging tournaments since the be- ginning of the season. Several wrestlers from both the boys’ and the girls’ teams, have stood out amongst their competitors. Zachary Brown is hold- ing strong to a record of 17-0 for the season thus far. Landon McMahon is holding a record of 19-2 after winning first at the latest tournament that he competed in. Keeley Nairns, Journey Cavan-Harris and Emilia Cavan-Harris have each in their weight class in every tournament that they have contended in since the start of the season. Coaches Zac Brown and Tyler Robinson said they were extremely proud to share that the Heppner Girls’ wrestling brought home a second-place trophy from the Elgin Memorial Tournament. This is the very first trophy for the women’s wrestling program since its inception at HHS. The wrestlers and their coaches also want to give a huge thanks to the following individuals, businesses and organizations that helped put together the funds to purchase new mats for the program: Heppner Booster Club, Miller and Sons, Silver Creek Construction, Mid Columbia Concrete, Threemile Farms, Watt Construction, Allred Land Worx, Wight Electric, Blue Mountain Plumbing, Bank of Eastern Oregon, Bailey Heavy Equipment & Re- pair, Morrow County Grain Growers, Greg Smith, Les Schwab, Coil Fabrication, Devin Oil, Rogers Toyota, Martin Construction, Mar- tin Towing, Murray’s Drug, Hansen Vet Services, Corey Miller Farms, Thompson Farms, Osmin Ranch, Mike Mahoney, Colin Anderson, and Allstott Construction. The generosity and support of each of these individuals and entities has been reflected in the design chosen to honor the memory of Sharon Miller, who herself was a huge supporter of the community of Heppner and the HHS wrestling program.
