Good News Only by Doris Brosnan What a great weekend of the latest HHS classes’ reunion! Several locals hosted friends from out-of-area, including Diana Ball. Her guests were Bruce and Diane Moyer, from Montana, and their daughter Randi and friend Chip, the major organizers and workhorses of the reunion weekend. Adding to Diana’s pleasure was the coinciding visit by her grandson Carter Ball, from Pull- man, Washington. (Probably entertaining to observe his grandmother interacting with school friends?) Last Tuesday, Carson Brosnan and Alyse Wentz, on the top step to the courthouse, exchanged wedding vows they had written to each other in the ceremony officiated by County Clerk Bobbi Childers and witnessed by some immediate family members. A reception for family and a few close school friends followed the ceremony in the backyard of this grandmother’s home. The perfect weather was so inviting and the conversations so enjoyable that most guests remained well into the evening. The couple stayed in the area the following day but had to leave for his parents’ place in Prineville on Thursday and load a few additional items before starting their road trip to New Orleans on Saturday. Marine Second Lieutenant Brosnan will be stationed in Louisiana for three years. Last Friday’s homecoming game was another win for the Mustangs, and it was another demonstration of the support behind one of the entities that tends to unite us. Focus on the schools, the students, and the athletes created those important moments of nonpolitical, non- controversial, family-oriented, positive energy. And the Band.... Wow! Hats off to those musicians whose sounds were loud and clear and their voices synchronized in loud support for the cheerleaders and the football players! Kudos to the FFA members and their adult assistants who are working for the money they need to reach their goal of attending the FFA National Convention. These young people do not have their hands out for donations but are creating useful ways to earn the money. They are inspirational. (They do not turn down donations, of course.) Our area is fortunate to have in our midst individuals with vision and positive can-do attitudes. As challenges to the vitality of our communities come at us and fear and rumors tend to discourage some, these people are putting their heads together and looking to replace what was but no longer can be with different, workable sources to maintain the vibrancy of our existence. And we can share ideas and show support. On a stroll of Main Street, one oftentimes notices surprising changes. The recent changes noted through the window of Murray’s is one example. For many of us, especially non-Facebook users, the move of the Heppner Chamber office from Main Street to Willow Street is an- other. And in its previous spot, we now have “Market 87!” The weather is pleasant, so this is probably a good time to stroll and have a look at these changes and additions! Will you help keep “Good News Only” something positive to read by sending something to dbrosnan123@ gmail.com or calling to report it at 541-223-1490. Here’s hoping that good news comes to everyone reading this.
