Long-sought Suspect is Now in Jail Terry Murry of Colum- bia Basin News reported: HEPPNER – Morrow County District Attorney Justin Nelson said that about nine years ago a sus- pect in a Blue Mountain En- forcement Narcotics Team action evaded law enforce- ment. Cruz Alamos Beltran was arrested last week. “This defendant was indicted through a secret indictment by the Morrow County grand jury with charges of delivery of meth through an undercover in- formant on four different occasions,” Nelson said. Nelson explained that at the time of the initial investigation, numerous individuals were arrested on narcotics charges. How- ever, Beltran managed to evade capture until law enforcement caught up with her last Thursday. She is now facing charges of felo- ny conspiracy and a failure to appear bench warrant and is currently lodged in Umatilla County Jail. Her bail has been set at $56,000. Nelson remarked on the significant changes in Oregon law since Beltran was first sought for arrest. “It is interesting to see how Oregon law has changed so much during these years,” he said. “From possession of drugs being a felony, then becoming a misdemeanor, then a viola- tion with a penalty less than a speeding ticket, and now back to misdemeanor.” FIVE- Heppner Gazette-Times, Heppner, Oregon Wednesday, June 26, 2024 Sheriff’s Report MCSO Feb 17 th D o m e s t i c D i s t u r- bance: Occurred on S Main St, in Heppner, OR.
