The other one, just a day older than Sharon, was absent because she, Doris Brosnan, was out of town. The women en- joyed the opportunity to visit over “wonderful chef sal- ads” and lemon bars served by Chef Heath. &RQJUDWVWR$OLH%DOOZKRFDSSHGKHUWUDFNDYRFD- WLRQDW:KLWZRUWK8QLYHUVLW\ODVWZHHNHQGZKHQVKHDQG her relay teammates participated in the National Cham- pionship Competition in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Although her grandmother, Diana Ball, could not attend, VKHZDLWHGE\KHUSKRQHIRUWUDFNVLGHUHVXOWVIURP$OLH¶V parents, Duane, and Stephanie Ball. A successful production of “The Wizard of Oz” bal- OHWLQ3HQGOHWRQODVWZHHNLQFOXGHGVHYHUDOSHUIRUPHUV with Heppner connections. As previously mentioned, Cori Jo Lindsay was a marvelous Scarecrow and Olivia :RRGDGDUOLQJ0XQFKNLQ$OVRLQWKHFDVWRIGDQFHUV appearing as multiple characters, were Sophie Qualls, daughter of John and Doashea, granddaughter of Roscoe and Kayrene, and Fallon Jones, daughter of Cody and Lindsey of Pendleton, granddaughter of Karen Clough. I recently had the privilege of attending the National Eucharistic Procession in our diocese, in Ontario with two bishops and many priests of our diocese and the diocesan priests of Boise. Some of WKHUHÀHFWLRQVWKDWFDPHWRP\PLQGZKLOHZDONLQJZLWK the Lord in the procession are given here. The Holy Eucharist is the parting gift of the Lord Jesus to us before His departure to the Father. Be- fore He left this world, He instituted the sacrament of Holy Eucharist, as well as the Sacrament of Priesthood, DQG DVNHG +LV GLVFLSOHV WR GR WKLV LQ +LV PHPRU\ IRU eternity. Thus, Jesus becomes “the Bread of life” (John :HNQRZLWZHOOIURPRXU&DWHFKLVPFODVVHV-H- sus was born in David’s town of Bethlehem. Bethlehem meant “the place of bread, place of meat.” Food is one RIWKHPDLQHOHPHQWVRIKXPDQOLYHVDQGZHDOOZRUN to satisfy our stomachs, but Jesus became bread for ev- eryone, to satisfy the spiritual and physical hunger of everyone, instituting the Holy Eucharist as the memorial of His presence with us and his unconditional love to- ZDUGVXV(XFKDULVWLFPLUDFOHVWDNHSODFHHYHU\GD\RQ every continent. For what are you hungering? Jesus actually sat- LV¿HVWKHSK\VLFDOKXQJHURIKXPDQVEHIRUHWKHVSLULWXDO one. The Eucharistic discourse of Jesus in the Gospel of -RKQ EHJLQV ZLWK WKH PLUDFOH RI ORDYHV +H IXO¿OOV WKH natural hunger of everyone before He begins the spir- itual discourse. In the last judgment scene, too, we read, “Come you that are bless- ed by my Father! He is always available to satiate the hunger and thirst of human beings. Do we approach Him for physical food or spir- itual food? As human beings, we cannot live on bread alone. We need more than food to live. I am remind- ed of the words of St Augustine: “It is no use feeding on Christ with our teeth if we are not feeding on him with our minds” - that is by faith. Let us remember that HDWLQJDQGGULQNLQJRIWKHERG\DQGEORRGRI-HVXVDUH meant to be symbolic of our wanting to live by the word RI*RG,QWKH*RVSHORI-RKQZKHQ+HVSHDNVDERXW the vine and branches, and in the Eucharistic discourse, too, Jesus reminds us that without Him, we cannot live: ³, WHOO \RX VROHPQO\ LI \RX GR QRW HDW RI WKH ÀHVK RI 6RQRI0DQDQGGULQN+LVEORRG\RXZLOOQRWKDYHOLIH LQ\RX+HZKRHDWVP\ÀHVKDQGGULQNVP\EORRGOLYHV in me and I in him, anyone who eats this bread will live forever” (John 6:53-54).
