+HSSQHU*D]HWWH7LPHV+HSSQHU2UHJRQ Wednesday, February 7, 2024 -- SEVEN Mustangs girls lose to Outlaws 51-44 The Lady Mustangs fell to Enterprise 44-51 in overtime, on February 2, 2024. The Heppner girls departed early that morning ZLWK FRQWULEXWHG SKRWR snack bags for the long trek to Enterprise. This was to be a big game. Enterprise was sitting alone, atop the Blue Mountain League at 7-1, Heppner 5-4 behind 6WDQ¿HOGDQG:HVWRQ0F(- wen tied at 6-2. This game OLYHGXSWRDOOH[SHFWDWLRQV A battle that displayed Hep- pner’s speed and defensive pressure, as they tried to overcome the size of Enter- prise’s team. The Outlaws players lined their roster at 6’0”, two at 5’9”, and 5’8”, that all know how to work hard low in the paint. 7KH¿UVWTXDUWHUZDVD mass of turnovers for both teams. Enterprise got into foul trouble immediately, but Heppner could not cap- italize on their free throws. Hadlie Nation and Hallee Hisler put Heppner on the board with free throws and 'HODQLH 6WHIDQL QDLOHG D 3-pointer to end the first quarter, 7-9, only trailing by two. The second quarter saw more turnovers. Hallee Hisler added rebounds and steals, Hadlie Nation steals and Healy Hisler passes to Nation. Nation was fouled and went 1-2 at the line. Enterprise went deep into the paint to score, leading 16-12 at halftime. Although scores were low, it was balanced between the two teams at the break for the Mustangs. Hadlie Nation ZLWKSRLQWV'HODQLH6WH- fan and Hallee Hisler with 3 points each, and Healy Hisler 2 points. The third quarter saw Enterprise’s strength at the hoop as they stretched their lead to 20-12. Then a much-needed hot hand came from freshman, Healy Hisler, who put up 10 points in the quarter. Outside shots, a lay-in, and a big three had great timing for the Lady Mustangs as they worked to stay in the game. Healy Hisler sank a three that helped get the 0XVWDQJVWR6WHIDQL IROORZHGZLWKDOD\LQ6WH- fani was pushed, a foul, but the free-throw opportunities IHOOVKRUW6WHIDQLLVVPDOOLQ stature, but still a threat on the court. Enterprise contin- XHGWRH[WHQGWKHLUOHDGWR 28-24 and the end of three quarters. Quarter four proved to be a nail-biter of the sea- son! Hallee Hisler whose scoring had been shut down GHIHQVLYHO\GXULQJWKH¿UVW 75% of the game, came to life and scored 13 of her JDPH SRLQWV LQ WKH ¿- nal quarter. The comeback ZDV RQ 6XGGHQO\ LW ZDV 36-36, both teams were fatigued, battling for the league win. With 1:34 left on the clock, the score was now 40-40, the clock was run- ning out, and Heppner took the lead 42-41 with 17 sec- onds left in the game. Both teams continued to foul and take their spots at the line. Heppner struggled to make the baskets, and Enterprise was able to score one free throw with 11 seconds left on the clock. The game was tied and the clock hit zero. 42-42 the teams would bat- tle it out in overtime. Heppner will play their last league home game on Thursday, February 8, DJDLQVW6WDQ¿HOG-9 girls start at 3 PM, varsity games start at 6 pm. During this game, the Mustangs will be honoring their se- niors, Morgan Cutsforth, Hadlie Nation, and Arianna Worden for the girls’ team. The Mustangs (13-9 overall, 6-3 BMC) defeated the Irrigon Knights 59-24 and then traveled to Enterprise and beat the Out- laws by the score of 57-48. Against Irrigon, the Mustangs started fast and jumped out to a 16-4 lead DWWKHHQGRIWKH¿UVWTXDUWHU and then they led 28-12 at the half. The third quarter saw the Mustangs outscore the Knights 19-4 and take a ELJOHDGLQWRWKH¿QDO frame. The fourth quarter would be played with a run- ning clock because of the thirty-point difference in the score and the Mustangs ZRQWKHJDPHE\WKH¿QDO score of 59-24. Caden George led the team in scoring with 14. He also had 3 rebounds, 4 assists, 2 steals and blocked 1 shot in the game. Landon 0LWFKHOO ZDV QH[W ZLWK 13 points, 7 rebounds, 1 assist and he had 3 steals. Mason Orem recorded 10 points, 3 rebounds and an assist for the team. Cam- eron Proudfoot tallied 5 points, 2 rebounds, 1 assist and had an amazing 7 steals on the night. With 4 points each were Caleb George and Keaton Coiner. Caleb also had a steal while Kea- ton recorded 4 rebounds, 1 assist and he blocked a shot. 7KRPDV %DOHV ZDV QH[W as he had 3 points, hauled down 8 rebounds and had 2 assists. Jackson Coiner scored 2 points, had 1 assist, and blocked 1 shot for the Mustangs. Alakae Rodri- JXH]DQG7ULSS6WHZDUWDOVR scored 2 points in the game for the team. Caylan Proud- foot contributed 1 rebound and 1 assist in the win. 7KH -9 WHDP ORVW D tough, close game to the Knights by the score of 43-37. Heppner was led in scoring by Keaton Coiner who had 13 points. With 9 points in the game was Logan Turner and Caleb George had 7. The long trip to Enter- prise didn’t seem to both- er the Mustangs as they jumped out to a quick 18- 10 lead on the Outlaws at WKHHQGRIWKH¿UVWTXDUWHU Heppner scored another 18 points in the second quar- ter and the stout Mustang defense limited Enterprise to only 4. Heppner led the game at halftime 36-14. The Mustangs scored ¿UVWLQWKHVHFRQGKDOIDQG then saw the Outlaws chip away at the 26-point lead. Heppner led the game 49- 33 at the end of the third quarter. The teams traded baskets early in the fourth quarter and Enterprise cut the Heppner lead to 10 points with only a couple minutes to go in the game. The Mustangs would score again and then Enterprise hit a three-pointer at the buzzer to make the final score 57-48 in favor of Heppner. Landon Mitchell had a big game for the Mustangs by scoring 24 points, haul- ing down 8 rebounds, dish- ing out 5 assists and having 3 steals. Caden George recorded 15 points, had 5 assists and 2 steals for the team. Cameron Proud- foot had an outstanding game with 12 points, 5 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 steals. Rounding out the scoring with 2 points each were Thomas Bales, Mason Orem, and Keaton Coiner. Thomas also recorded 8 rebounds, had 1 assist and 4 steals while Mason also ripped down 8 rebounds, had 1 assist, and had 3 steals in the game. To go along with his 2 points, Keaton hauled down 3 rebounds and dished out 1 assist for the team. 7KH -9 0XVWDQJV ORVW another close game, this time losing to the Out- laws by the score of 50-44.
