+HSSQHU*D]HWWH7LPHV+HSSQHU2UHJRQ Wednesday, December 06, 2023 7+5(( Good News Only by Doris Brosnan %\FDU.RGLDN$ODVNDVHHPVWREHEHWZHHQ DQGPLOHVIURP+HSSQHU%\DLULVDQRWKHUVWRU\ of course. And that story “Thanksgiving” could tell if she could talk… but Thanksgiving is a pigeon. The Cameron Sweeney family has, as reported in a past GT, ten homing pigeons. On Thanksgiving Day, the pigeons were in the air enjoying whatever homing pigeons do in the air, and when they returned to their pigeon loft, they brought home a visitor they had picked up while out and about! The newcomer seemed totally content to move in with her new-found friends. Since the band on the calm, IULHQGO\QHZFRPHU¶VOHJLGHQWL¿HGKHUDVDSLJHRQIURP Kodiak, the Sweeneys have tried to contact her owner, to no avail. So, for now, the Sweeney’s have eleven pi- geons, and one of them – now named “Thanksgiving” – could probably tell some hair-raising stories about her adventurous travels, if only she could talk! David and April Sykes spent Thanksgiving week in Carey, North Carolina, visiting their daughter Allison and her family: husband, Matt, and sons, Sebastian, and August. In addi- tion to enjoying a traditional Thanksgiving dinner, they spent time visiting and catching up on news. They also rode along when taking the boys to school and visited the beautiful new city park that had just opened. On the way home, the Sykes’s got an unexpected side trip: Because RIIRJDW3DVFRWKHLUÀLJKWZDVGLYHUWHGWR6HDWWOHZKHUH WKH\VWD\HGRYHUQLJKWDQGÀHZKRPHWKHQH[WGD\7KH airline did provide accommodation and meals. MaryAnn Elguezabal shares that “Last week I wished Carter Adams good luck on his hunting trip and added that I would love to have some deer burger. Two days later, he showed up at my doorstep with several packages of deer burger and a great big smile on his face!” (Of course, Carter refused UHPXQHUDWLRQ IRU WKH PHDW EXW KH GLG ¿QDOO\ DJUHH WR take some fresh, homemade tortillas.) MaryAnn contin- ues, “Speaking of deer, my granddaughter Emily, who is one and a half, also knows how to say ‘deer’! One of the blessings of living in Heppner!” From our Heppner library: “Come join us for ‘Crafty Night’ next Wednes- day, December 13 at 6 PM. This month’s craft will be a Reindeer Punch-Needle Wall Art.” This program is for adult crafters only, and registration is required by calling the library or stopping in to register. (Sounds like fun, and WKHSLFWXUHRIWKH¿QLVKHGSURGXFWLVUHDOO\FXWH 7RQLJKW Wednesday the 6 th , we can go to the annual holiday/winter evening of music featuring grades K through 12, at the elementary school. Such a great job by the City Crew, ag museum volunteers, preschool singers, school choir!
