A Reminder to Insulate Mustang Volleyball Loses to Greyhounds Water Meters The City of Heppner kindly reminds all residents to take this necessary pre- caution before the mercury plummets. Now is the per- fect time to act, and con- veniently, PettyJohns, our local hardware store, carries insulation that perfectly fits the water meter. Priced at a reasonable $4.00, this insu- lation is readily available. However, if one prefers to explore other options, var- ious building supply stores also carry suitable insula- tion. Freezing temperatures can cause extensive damage to the meter, leading to costly repairs and incon- venience. In the event that accessing and insulating the meter proves challenging for anyone, the city stands ready to assist. Simply con- tact us, and we will gladly lend our support. However, it is important to note that there is a fee of $75.00, in addition to the cost of materials, for repairing any meters that have become frozen due to insufficient insulation. Should you have any further questions or concerns regarding insu- lating your water meter or any related matters, please do not hesitate to reach out to the city at 541-676-9618, or you can visit us in person at City Hall. The Neighborhood Center Annual Food Drive Nov. 2nd It is time for the Neighborhood Center’s Annual Food Drive! Ev- ery year the community of South Morrow County has been generous to peo- ple in need. This time of year, Thanksgiving and Christmas, is difficult for some families. People want to get together with their families and friends to share a meal during the holidays. The cost of food makes this almost impos- sible. The Neighborhood Center needs assistance to fill our shelves so all may have a wonderful holiday season. Most Mustang fall sports members will be collecting food donations on November 2 between 5:30 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. These students will be on the lookout for front porch lights in the city limits of Heppner. For those who want to participate in giv- ing, please leave your porch light on with your bag of food donations on the porch. The food will be brought to the Neighbor- hood Center to be weighed, sorted, and shelved. Those in Lexington can bring their donations of food to Lexington City Hall during normal business hours. Please be sure your donations are current, not out of date. Some sugges- tions are anything you like for holiday meals: gravy mix, canned gravy, canned yams, cranberries, green beans, olives, snacks, and stuffing mix to name a few. Let us make this a wonder- ful time of year for every- one! The Mustangs getting focussed during their match with Gas- ton Greyhounds - Photo by Susan Hisler By Tylynn Cimmiyotti On Saturday, October 28, 2023, the Heppner Mus- tangs volleyball team faced a tough challenge in the first round of the 2A State playoffs. They traveled to Gaston to play against the Greyhounds, who were ranked #7 in the state. The Mustangs, who were ranked #10, put up a good fight, but they could not overcome the strong performance of their opponents. The Mus- tangs showed some impres- sive skills on offense, but they struggled to maintain a high hitting percentage. They also made costly mis- takes on defense that gave the Greyhounds an advan- tage. The Mustangs lost the match and ended their season, but they have much to be proud of. They have a young and talented team that will return stronger next year. Heppner vs. Gaston: Loss, 0-3. 17-25, 15-25, 20-25. Stats: Ava Gerry: 4 kills, 12 assists, 11 digs, 3 aces, 2 blocks. Maya Payne: 6 kills, 7 assists, 8 digs. Hal- lee Hisler: 8 kills, 9 digs, 3 aces, 2 blocks. Morgan Cutsforth: 5 kills, 11 digs, 3 aces. Katie Spivey: 20 digs. Avree Lathrop: 2 digs. The most important thing I would like to share is how the family and I appreciate the overwhelming show of love and support from all of you in the community. Sometimes we take for granted and maybe even complain about our small, tight-knit community but on the afternoon of October 14th with a showing of over 600 family, friends and acquaintances at Sharon’s celebration of life. It truly was a celebration. So many things I’d like to say but the only thing that I can muster is THANK YOU ALL FROM THE BOTTOM OF OUR HEARTS!! The Sharon Miller Family.
