Heppner Gazette-Times, Heppner, Oregon Wednesday, October 25, 2023 -- SEVEN Hisler voted 1st team all-conference Middle school cross country competes in districts Heppner boys (L-R) #43 Axton Hendricks, #46 Henry Whatley, #37 James Campbell, #38 Frank DiSalvo, #47 Jaxson Wight, #36 Olsen Anderson start their run. The Mustang Middle School cross country team traveled to Pendleton last Friday to compete in the Eastern Oregon Middle School Championships. All the team members ran in the Super Champs 3000-meter race, the most competitive division for the middle school meet. They faced up against the best of the best from teams from La Grande, Baker City, The Dalles, and others. The Mustang boys’ and girls’ team both placed sixth against stiff compe- tition from larger schools. The district champi- onship came a week af- ter a meet in Vernonia, in which all team members set personal records. The boys’ team placed fifth in Vernonia, while the girls team placed second and saw fifth-grader Hadlie Duncan claim fourth place individually for a spot on the podium. The final contest of the season will be the Stump- town Youth XC Champion- ship this Sunday, Oct. 29, at Western Oregon University in Monmouth. The first race will be the girls Super Champs 3000-meter at 1 p.m., followed by the boys Super Champs 3000-meter at 1:30 p.m. Full team results for the district championships and Vernonia are as follows: Eastern Oregon Mid- dle School Champion- ships 3,000 Meters Boys Su- per Champs 37.
