At the time of this writing, the Mustangs are sitting at the top spot for BMC and ranked 11th overall for OSAA. On Tuesday, Septem- ber 12, 2023, the Mustang volleyball team hosted the Irrigon Knights in their first league contest of the season. Heppner came out on top, winning 3-0. Coach Wilson said the team served well and played tough at the net. The team was able to improve on the little things and finished strong. Heppner vs. Irrigon: W 3-0, 25-9, 25-6, 25-9. On Saturday, Septem- ber 16, 2023, the Mustangs traveled to Powder Valley High School in Wasco to compete in the Powder Valley Tournament. According to Coach Wilson, the girls came in that morning working hard to control the ball against Damascus Christian; the other team was struggling a little off and on, and the Mustangs took full advan- tage. In the game against Nyssa, Heppner struggled with their serves but was able to control and put the ball away off of the serve-receive. Heppner vs. Damascus Christian: W 2-0, 25-21, 25-23. Heppner vs. South Wasco: L 0-2, 14-25, 20- 25. No Stats. On Monday, September 18, The Heppner Mustangs traveled to Weston McEw- en for their second league game of the season. The team had their struggles this evening but came back each time, battling as a team to get the win. Heppner played Weston McEwen tough at the net, which was a big thing for the Mustangs, Coach Wilson puts it. Heppner vs. Weston McEwen: W 3-1, 26-24, 25-23, 17-25, 25-20.
