The harvest festival will be exclusively out- doors and will feature a large variety of vendors with high-quality, region- ally produced agricultural goods and handmade arti- san crafts. Threemile Canyon Farms will provide an op- portunity for attendees to fill a bag full of locally grown produce at the sev- enth annual ‘Harvest Boun- ty for Youth in Agriculture.’ In exchange for a small donation to a local youth program, visitors can pack a grocery bag full of tra- ditionally grown potatoes, carrots and organic onions. Through partnerships with organizations like FFA, Boardman Parks and Recreation District, Uma- tilla National Forest and more, the “Kid’s Corner” will showcase numerous free youth activities. Fa- vorite activities returning this year are mule-drawn wagon rides, face painting and pumpkin painting. Dallin Puzey will provide live music on the Boardman Chamber of Commerce stage from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Puzey, a Hermiston native, writes and performs his own mu- sic in addition to play- ing a variety of familiar folk, country, rock and pop songs. Sponsored by Inter- Mountain Education Ser- vice District (IMESD) and the Pendleton Round-Up Association, this event pro- vides children with special needs ages five through 10 years the opportunity to be cowboys and cowgirls inside the famous rodeo location. About 50 children from across eastern Oregon will participate this year. Stu- dents from IMESD’s com- ponent school districts in Baker, Morrow, Umatilla and Union counties are eli- gible to participate. The rodeo participants will enjoy various activities that include riding a horse, a horse-drawn buggy ride, barrel racing on stick po- nies, “steer” roping, riding a pretend bull, milking a mock cow, Native Ameri- can drumming and more. Participants will also be able to enjoy the theme of the day, Tough Enough to Wear Pink. Each participant receives a T-shirt, cowboy hat, lariat, scarf and a photo with their cowboy/cowgirl volunteer. Spectators are welcome at the Children’s Rodeo and admission is free, but people will need to pay for tickets to the regular Round-Up Rodeo later in the afternoon. Dozens of volunteers, including PRCA and local cowboys and cowgirls, IMESD volunteers, Round- Up volunteers and com- munity members work to make the Children’s Rodeo a success each year. “Every year, there is nothing like seeing the excitement of our student participants and their fam- ilies who get to experience this event. The event will begin at 7:45 a.m. as fire trucks drive through downtown Heppner in a silent parade. The trucks will make their way to the Morrow County Fairgrounds, where opening ceremonies begin- ning at 8 a.m. will include raising the flag, a prayer for the fallen and a speaker explaining the event. A Fireman’s Breakfast will begin at 8 a.m. Dona- tions are appreciated. At 9 a.m., the main event will begin as fire- fighters and members of the community begin climb- ing—and climbing. Partic- ipants will climb 110 flights of stairs to remember those who lost their lives that fateful Tuesday. Anyone is welcome to sign up and join the climb. Community members do not need to wear full gear for the climb, and both individuals and teams are welcome. Kids’ activities and crafts will also be avail- able while the climbing is in progress. The event will also in- clude a silent auction at 10 a.m. Auction items have been donated from a variety of local businesses. All money raised will go to the South Morrow County fire departments.
