She said she was also watching a few kids who had 100 percent attendance so far this year. “That’s exciting.” She also reported that the students had conducted the yearly fundraiser for the American Heart Associa- tion. Their goal was to raise $1,000, but they had raised around $2,800. She said they had nar- rowed the options for math adoption down to two, and the staff thought they knew which one they wanted, so she had gotten a quote for that program. She said the company they really like is Oregon Math’s Big Ideas. It’s a K-12 curriculum. “It would be one, very cohesive, going from sixth grade to middle school to high school,” she said. She said she hoped to have a decision so they could lay it out for board approval at the next meet- ing, as well as parent ap- proval. Dinning reported that there are 10 girls and six boys out for tennis. There are 10 or 11 middle school- ers out for track, all boys, and eight or nine high schoolers, also all boys. The school has two high- schoolers playing softball with Heppner and one play- ing baseball. There are no Ione students playing golf, and no Heppner students going to Ione to play tennis, though Dinning said two of homeschooled than not.” Dinning also men- tioned that they need to plan a celebration or recognition for Maureen McElligott. This is her 50 th year coach- ing tennis. “She’s sharp still, and we’re fortunate to have her,” said Dinning, adding that there are 16 students in tennis this year. Finally, the board ap- proved the 2023-24 school district calendar. Johnson told the board the calendar for the upcoming year is pretty much the same ex- cept for some adjustment of the Christmas break. Unlike Morrow County School District, Ione staff chose to retain Friday school days after Monday holidays. “The only feedback we got was that they would rather have a couple days off before Christmas,” she said. Christmas break will start Dec. 20 and school will resume Jan. 3. The next meeting of the Ione School Board will be April 25. The board will hold a work session starting at 4 p.m. followed by the regular board meeting at 4:30 p.m. MONDAYS AT 5:00 P.M. YOUR AD COULD BE HERE!
