Heppner Birthright holds celebrates anniversary dinner Christmas Heppner will be celebrating Christmas Thursday, Dec. 15, starting at 6 p.m. at the Morrow County Fair- grounds. Admission is free, and community members are invited to visit Santa and Mrs. Claus, enjoy a cup of cocoa, and bring the kids for some free games. Shopping vouchers will be available from local businesses starting Mon- day, Nov. 21, and can be used to enter drawings at the event. The Neighbor- hood Center will be doing a raffle, and the Heppner Elementary Parent-Teacher Club will be putting on a bake sale to raise funds. Neighborhood Center gets ready for the holidays The Neighborhood Center of South Morrow County is gearing up for the holidays with several opportunities to give or receive. The Neighborhood Center will receive appli- cations for its Giving Tree until this Friday, Nov. 18. The tree will go on display at Heppner Market Fresh on Tuesday, Nov. 22. The center will par- ticipate in the Pink Friday event this Friday from 3-7 p.m. The Neighborhood Center will hold a special Pink Friday bag sale; the first bag is $15 and addi- tional bags will be $5. All other store merchandise will be 50 percent off. Pro- ceeds go to the food pantry. The center also reports that the November canned food drive brought in 1,066 pounds and a $20 cash do- nation. CBEC will be checking poles out of the Ruggs substation areas. This will include: Rhea Creek, Ione Gooseberry, Hardman, Toll Rock, Tupper and surrounding areas. National Wood Treating Company has been contracted to perform this work for CBEC. The pole checking will be conducted with a pick-up and ATV and all NWT vehicles will be marked with CBEC signage. The annual pole checking process is necessary to stay in compliance with Oregon Public Utility Commission and National Electric Safety Code regulations.
