Editor Giselle Moses.........................................................................................Advertising A View from the Green Over the Tee Cup The first day of regular play for the Willow Creek Country Club ladies was held April 26 at 10 a.m., on a brisk but dry day. With the earlier rain, many stayed home, leaving only five players. Low gross of the field went to Virginia Grant and low net of the field to Shir- ley Martin. Low gross for flight B was awarded to Pat Dougherty and Betty Carter for flight C. Jeanne Creswick had the least putts of the day, and the longest putt went to Shirley Martin. The ladies play each Tuesday at 9 a.m. at Wil- low Creek Country Club in Heppner. WCCC Men’s Sunday Play A two-man event was played by 26 men on May 1 at Willow Creek Country Club for the regular Sunday Men’s Play. The team of Tim Wright and Rod Wilson took first in net with 84.5. Second was Greg Greenup and Delbert Binshus, 88.5, and the third place team was Rick John- ston and Gene Orwick with a score of 89. Charlie Ferguson and Barry Munkers were award- ed first place in gross with a score of 92 and Jeff Watkins and Jared Huddleston were second with 98. There was a third-place tie between the teams of Roger Ehr- mantraut, Dennis Peck and David Alstott, David Gun- derson with scores of 101. Due to Mother’s Day, there will be no play Sun- day, May 8. A two-man tournament will be held May 14 and 15, hosted by Charlie Ferguson. A sign-up sheet is available at the club house or more information can be found by contacting Ferguson at 541-256-6145. Chamber meeting planned for May 5 The Heppner Chamber of Commerce will hold an all entities report meeting on May 5 at noon at the Gilliam and Bisbee Building. A lunch of Cinco de Mayo enchiladas will be provid- ed by Tacos Hometown for $10 per person. RSVPs are required for lunch. BALLOTS Mike McNamee What education and/or degrees do you have that qualify you for the position? I have an associate degree and a bachelor’s degree in Industrial Processes Tech- nology, along with work towards an accounting de- gree. What, if any, prior ex- perience do you have? My experience is management of a farm equipment deal- ership, 10 years working in a research and development laboratory as a technician and 32 years as a partner/ owner in a custom haying/ farming business in north Morrow County. I served two terms on the Morrow County Soil and Water Board and served in vari- ous leadership roles with the Knights of Columbus Men’s Organization. Do you have a family here? Spouse? Children? I have been married to Run- nisha for 42 years. We have two daughters who attended school in Morrow County, but no longer reside in the county. Why are you running for a county office? I am running for the office of commissioner because I feel I have a unique per- spective in not having held a county position previous- ly. I have a fresh perspec- tive, without an agenda, and a willingness to serve the citizens of Morrow County, moving it positively into the future. What do you feel is the biggest challenge facing the office you are running for in Morrow County? The biggest challenge is to keep focused on the commission- er’s job, which is responsi- ble for approving ordinanc- es (county laws); adopting the county budget; setting standards for the use of departments with appoint- ed department heads; and being the spokesman of the citizens. In my obser- vations, there is a tendency of the current board to mi- cromanage. How would you address that challenge if you win? My approach to this issue is would be to diligently keep the current qualified admin- istrators; hire qualified peo- ple at a competitive wage, support them, monitor their performance and let them do the jobs. Why do you feel you are the best candidate for the job? I have appreciated the processes of this commis- sioner’s race and respect the other candidates and those in the communities that have taken their time to be involved in the elec- tion forums. I believe I will come to the position with a practical common-sense approach; with a conserva- tive, yet open minded, set of principles that will benefit all; for the good of Morrow County. I would appreciate your vote and I will do my very best to be your voice in the county government. ry election ballot. At the primary elec- tion, voters who are not registered in one of the ma- jor political parties would receive a ballot containing nonpartisan contests, such as judicial elections, which all registered voters may vote on. Envelopes for the bal- lots include business class pre-paid postage which may take longer than first class.
