Heppner Gazette-Times, Heppner, Oregon Wednesday, October 13, 2021 -- SEVEN Heppner cruises to the win vs Riverside By Blake Carter Heppner suited up for a Thursday night game vs the Riverside Pirates and cruised to a 61-0 win. The Heppner defense stole the show as they only allowed eight total yards of offense, while the Mustang offense produced 410 yards. From the kickoff the Mustangs were dominant, Heppner opened their scoring as Caden George ran the ball 62 yards for the early score, and 7-0 lead. Heppner add- ed to the total as Jace Coe returned a punt for a score. In just two plays, Landon Mitchell connected with Cameron Proudfoot as Heppner’s lead continued to grow. Leading 21-0, Blane Mahoney forced a fumble and Brock His- ler pounced on it in the endzone. Landon Mitchell continued the Heppner on- slaught as he threw a 30- yard dart to Zander Fisher extending the lead to 34-0 in just the first quarter. Brock Hisler added a touchdown to his name on a 70-yard touchdown run. Conor Brosnan also took a turn with the ball in his hands, as he trotted in for a 25-yard touchdown to further the Mustangs ad- vantage to 47-0. The Mustangs contin- ued to run away with it in the second half, with a run- ning clock the half went by much quicker, Bryan Col- lins started the half off with a 40-yard touchdown run. Hayden McMahon added another touchdown as he sped around the outside on his way to a 50-yard touch- down run. The Mustangs held the 61-0 lead as the clock wasted away. Statistics for the game; Landon Mitchell complet- ed four passes on six at- tempts for 102 yards and two touchdowns. Heppner was busy on the ground as Landon Mitchell rushed for eight yards, Bryan Collins rushed for 40 yards and one touchdown, Jackson Coiner ran for six yards, Aden Lathrop ran for 20 yards, Hayden McMahon ran for 50 yards and one touchdown, Nick Wenberg gained three yards, Caden George ran for 91 yards and one touchdown, Brock Hisler ran for 82 yards and a touchdown, and Conor Brosnan ran for 25 yards and one touchdown. Jace Coe brought in a catch for 32 yards, Cameron Proud- foot collected a catch for 27 yards and one touch- down while Zander Fisher brought in two receptions for 43 yards and a touch- down. Blane Mahoney led the team with six tackles while Cade Cunningham recorded five tackles and Brock Hisler finished with four tackles. With three tackles each were Aden Lathrop and Ty Boor. Out of the 21 Mustangs that ran that day, 18 of them broke a personal record, either for the season or for their all-time best. Seven of those records were set from the middle school girls alone. The Mustangs will be travelling to Vernonia this Thursday.
