The Parish was estab- lished in 1887 with a church building on Chase Street. That church, now a private home, also served as one of the temporary morgues during the 1903 Heppner flood. On September 17, 1941, ground was broken for a larger, red brick church on Gale Street and complet- ed just two months and ten days later on November 27. Because of increasing maintenance costs and a need for more space, the red brick church was torn down in April 1971 and the present ‘green’ church was constructed on its site. Mass was held in the Parish Hall during construction. Father Raymond Beard and many parish- ioners contributed to the building process, which was officially dedicated on November 10, 1971. Michael Scott Lovgren was the first baptized infant in the new church building in December 1971 and that same month, John and Jill O’Donnell were the first couple married there. In recognition of the 50-year anniversary, there will be a Mass at 11 a.m. on November 21 followed by a luncheon at the Parish Hall. Both are open to the public. The Parish is asking for photos, stories or memories of the past 50 years, or even prior, for display and/or to share in a slide presentation at the luncheon. The dead- line for these is November 5.
