EIGHT - Heppner Gazette-Times, Heppner, Oregon Wednesday, September 29, 2021 Ione/Arlington hosts Pilot Rock for first home game Ione/Arlington hosted the team from Pilot Rock for their first home football game in Ione on Friday, September 24. While Pilot Rock was always close be- hind the home team, in the end Ione/Arlington (I/A) took the win with a solid 38-24. A spokesperson re- ported that while there was one injury when a Pilot Rock player dislocated his knee cap, the game went well. At half-time Pilot Rock was leading with 12-8 but I/A came out energized for the second half. “Taylor Rollins was hard to stop in the second half,” report- ed Coach Dennis Stefani. “Rollins rushed for three touchdowns and Carson Eynetich contributed from Heppner High’s homecoming court takes the field . On the boys’ side, Cooper Wight placed second for the mid- dle school boys and Trevor Nichols placed third in the boys’ varsity. The staff appreciates the generosity of the donations that will provide learning opportunities for the students. Nichols stood atop the po- dium with Heppner’s other middle school girls, who won the sixth-, seventh- and eighth-grade races. For the eighth-grade race, Riley Archer finished second after Nichols, followed by teammate Brooklyn Hen- dricks, who was the first seventh grader to cross the finish line. Lizzie Ginn, the first sixth grader, finished shortly after. The middle school girls team won the meet with only 20 points. When it comes to cross country, the less points, the better. Trevor Nichols, who placed second for the varsi- ty boys, and Hailey Heide- man, who placed fourth for the varsity girls, represent- ed Heppner on the podium. The high school boys’ team placed second overall. This was a long but rewarding weekend where lots of per- sonal records were broken. The Mustangs will be running again this Thurs- day, September 30, at Sand- stone Middle School in Hermiston. Middle school girls and boys will race at 3:30 p.m. Girls’ varsity will race at 4 p.m. followed by boys’ varsity at 4:45 p.m. The Mustangs are host- ing their home meet next week on Thursday, October 7. Seniors will be recog- nized shortly before the races begin.
