Stained glass window to be dedicated to Father Condon Sixteen months ago, Heppner lost its beloved Fa- ther Gerald Condon, whose impact reached far beyond his local parishes, a friend to all in our communities. “His departure definitely left a large hole in many hearts, a hole to be filled with the love and memories so many individuals have of this remarkable man,” Sheridan Tarnasky told the Gazette. Since Father Condon’s death, many have asked what they could do as a memorial to him. After much discussion, a sug- gestion is being shared with the community as a whole: A large stained-glass be two little girls zipping around on their new little 4-wheelers. Alex Carlson, son of Sarah and Phil, was an outstanding student in the Ione HS class of 2010 – and he continues outstanding achievements as he works toward his ultimate goals. He has been at University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill graduate school since 2014 as part of the MD PhD program. He completed his PhD program in neurosci- ence in 2019. And this May, he graduated from UNC Medical School with AOA Medical Honor Society rec- ognition. This month, Alex started a pediatric residency and fellowship at Universi- ty of California-San Diego. His fellowship research will focus on the influence of the microbiome on neurolog- ical development. Impres- sive young man whom his parents are pleased to have on the west coast. Good news for Sha- ron Harrison last Friday (wait for it.). She fell at home alone, but she was able to use her smartwatch (good news) to call son Travis, who was almost (good news) on his way to a field. Instead, he soon arrived and called 911. Sharon has nothing but praise for Tina Davis in the ambulance (good news) and parish. The cost of the project will be nearly $30,000. Al- though a generous donation has provided a promising start-up of the project, the ultimate goal remains dis- tant. Presently, the only stained-glass windows at St. Patrick’s are in the chap- el area. These windows are from the old church that was demolished when the present church was built. “A stained-glass window in the church proper will defi- nitely add to the aesthetics of the church and will be a continuing reminder of Father Gerald Condon to all who gaze upon it. Gen- erations to come will know the story of the parish priest that served St. Patrick’s and the communities of Hep- pner, Lexington, and Ione for over twenty-five years,” continued Tarnasky. Contributions for this project can be sent to Saint Patrick’s, PO Box 633, Heppner, OR 97836, or to Sheridan Tarnasky, 390 Barratt Blvd, Heppner, OR 97836. Please designate “Father Condon Memorial Fund” on the donation. Any questions regarding this project can be referred to Sheridan Tarnasky at 541- 676-5059. Irrigon man arrested for murder in the second degree Brett Ian Carson, 43, of Irrigon has been arrest- ed by the Morrow County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) on charges of murder in the second degree and unlaw- ful use of a weapon after an incident at the Oregon Trail RV Park in Irrigon. MCSO received a report of a shooting at the RV park at approximately 9 p.m. on July 8. The caller reported Good News Only By Doris Brosnan Next month, those cowboy melodies heard on Main Street will be easier to sing along with, judging by Dale Bates’s efforts last week. He was replacing speakers, ensuring clearer, truer sounds. The eclectic sounds of Music in the Park were well received by the good- sized lawn-chair crowd last Sunday that included four residents from Willow Creek Terrace. HHS graduates from the 60s classes will be con- verging in Heppner this weekend. At least 140 at- tendees are expected by planners Ken and Jan Evans and Stuart Dick. Anyone who wants to say hi will find them at the Gilliam and Bisbee Building Saturday evening. David and Jean Cres- wick, who moved to Lex- ington six years ago, will be hosting their fourth fam- ily gathering this week, expecting at least fifteen family members. Beginning on Thursday, daughters and their husbands and the grandchildren able to attend will be showing up from Forest Grove, Battleground and Vancouver, WA, and Casper, WY. The event will last at least four days for most, and one expected form of entertainment will window, which would be placed in the area of the upper windows on the south side of his parish church, St. Patrick. The window’s segments would depict Fa- ther Condon’s dedication to the priesthood, his Irish Heritage, and his reverence to St. Terese of Lisieux (the “Little Flower”). Community-wide par- ticipation in this effort to establish funds for the proj- ect is encouraged and wel- come, and all contributions will be acknowledged on a plaque near the window. Viewing of the window will be accessible to everyone, not only members of the Brett Ian Carson Nate Kennedy who helped load her and was a great driver (good news), and for the staff, including the doctor, in the emergency room at Pioneer Memorial (good news). Sharon had broken her shoulder, had an appointment with an ortho- pedic surgeon on Monday and learned that she will not have to have surgery (good news). After losing his wife to cancer, William (Bill) Ma- hon moved back to Heppner to be near his sister Patty Harshman. William started attending church, where he met Neva DeMayo, who had recently lost her husband to Parkinson’s disease. These two lonely “old” people who thought life was pretty much over began sharing church and life in Heppner. It’s been a whirlwind romance. They are now an engaged couple.
