Council position one is currently vacant. Lexington residents will vote for the mayor and three town council mem- bers. Juli Kennedy is the candidate for mayor. Coun- cil members Bill Beard, Will Lemmon and Curtis Thompson are candidates for positions one through three. Hello. I am JoAnna Lamb and I am running for council member for the City of Heppner. My family and I moved here from Irrigon in July of last year. I work for Ione Community Charter School as an Educational Assistant serving grades 6 to 12. My husband works for the Town of Lexington, our daughter is a 5 th grader at Ione and our son and his wife (and soon to be little one) live in Idaho. I enjoy being part of the community and it’s exciting for me to be part of helping a community become more united and progressive. My past experience with volunteering has been a great experience in learn- ing how to organize large events. Sometimes I have to stop and think, “This sounded a whole lot better in my head”’ while in the middle of them though. It has also fostered an ability to mediate between many different groups of people effectively when different wants and needs may not align exactly but a common goal must be achieved. My specific interests in serving this community are geared toward agricul- ture and the availability of fresh, healthy foods to our community, opportunities for entrepreneurs to start up new businesses and encour- aging our community to improve the availability of housing by renovating these lovely old houses whenev- er possible, and replacing them when it is no longer a viable option. I look forward to serv- ing this community with fresh new ideas and pre- serving the unique history and unity this community holds on to. In Heppner, voters are asked to vote for Jim Kindle for mayor; JoAnna Lamb for council position one; John A. Bowles for coun- cil position two and Corey Sweeney for council posi- tion three. For questions or addi- tional information about the candidates, contact the city hall in the city where you reside. Chris Cave, Candidate for Ione city council Age: 52 What education &/or experience do you have that qualify you for this position? The majority of my working career was spent in the forest industry where project development and application plans require strict adherence to State and Federal laws, much like city municipalities. Public relations with rural land owners, and their many colorful, often different minded neighbors, has giv- en me the tools I believe are needed to hold this position. Do you have family here? Female arrested for arson Diane Rochelle Berecz, 47, of Irrigon was arrested and charged with arson I, assault of a police officer (X2) and resisting arrest on Saturday, October 10 after deputies were dispatched to a house fire on Crooked Road in Irrigon. The house interior was fully engulfed in minutes and a female was seen walking away from the burning house. Berecz was lodged at Umatilla County Jail with bail of $275,000. The inves- tigation is on-going. My son, Alex, and my wife and I enjoy the serenity and security that life in Ione provides. It’s a great place for our son to spend his childhood, just being a kid doing all the innocent and fun things we all remember from our childhoods. I have extended family in the area through my wife, and they have been a valuable re- source for me that I greatly appreciate. Why are you running for city office? I’m running for City Council to help affect change and direction that benefits the townspeople and our municipality, What do you feel is the biggest challenge facing the office you are running for in your city? Water and sewer ser- vices equals our city’s abil- ity for growth. Our lack of a municipal sewer system severely limits our ability to add more homes, or even to keep some of the homes we currently have, due to state regulations. How would you address that challenge if you win? By working with our Mayor and Council to come up with solutions for fund- ing this municipal project we desperately need. Why do you feel you are the best candidate for this position? I don’t know if I’m the best candidate for the posi- tion, but I AM a candidate who’s looking to positively secure the future of the City of Ione. Diane Rochelle Berecz ATTENTION HUNTERS!!
