Grasser The August 18 playday at Willow Creek Country Club hosted 11 ladies. Vir- ginia Grant took low gross of the field. Pat Edmundson got low net of the field and Shirley Martin had the least putts. Flight B low gross went to Tiffany Clement and Joyce I. Grasser, 98, former longtime Heppner resident, died Sunday, Au- gust 9, 2020 at her niec- es’ home in Junction City, OR. A graveside memorial service was held on Sun- day, August 23 at the Hep- pner Masonic Cemetery. She was Joyce I. b o r n A p r i l Grasser 6, 1922, at Priest River, ID, the daughter of Joseph and Lurena Stedman Pe- terson. Joyce spent parts of two years in Newburg, so she could go to church school. A few years later, Grand Ronde had grown, and both Joyce and her brother Law- rence could attend church school near home. In 1941 she graduated from Acade- my: Laurelwood. She then attended college in Walla Walla and graduated in 1951. Joyce was an elementa- ry school teacher for many years. She taught in Myrtle Point, Sweet Home, Klam- ath Falls, Grants Pass and Roseburg, usually staying two years at a school. Joyce applied for work on the new Bible course that was being introduced by the Radio Group, Voice of Prophecy. She sent in the registration material and was accepted. It was a new experience and she enjoyed it for nine years. On March 11, 1965, she married Lester S. Grasser at Glendale, CA and the cou- ple then moved to Heppner. “They enjoyed over 40 wonderful years together,” her family said. Joyce and Lester enjoyed traveling to visit relatives across Amer- ica. Included in their travels was a European trip with a tour group in honor of the 500 th birthday of the re- former, Martin Luther. The Karen Haguewood had low net. Willow Creek men play two-man shoot Twenty-six participated in men’s play on August 23 at Willow Creek Coun- try Club, with a two-man shoot event. Greg Greenup won the good of the order drawing. The winners in the spe- cial events were Reno Fer- guson with KP on #4 with 5’7” and Dave Mitchell with 2’2” KP on #7. Gross winners were Ron Bowman and Duane Disque in first with 93. The second-place team with a score of 97 was Tomas Elguezabal/Matt Bergstrom and third was Charlie Fer- guson/Reno Ferguson with 99. Josh Coiner and Dave Gunderson took first in net with 87 and David Allstott/ Dave Gunderson took sec- ond with 88. The two teams who tied for third place were John Edmundson/Jeff Edmundson and Roger Ehr- mantraut/Tom Shear. The Wednesday night match play concluded last week with first going to John Edmundson and Gene Orwick. Second place win- ners were Jim Bleth and Marty Brannon. Third and fourth tied winners were Tim Wright/Rod Wilson and Greg Greenup/Delbert Binschus. The men’s club will host the Ryder Cup on Sun- day, August 30. Justice Court Report Morrow County Justice of the Peace, Glen Diehl, has released the following Justice Court report: -Theresa L. Dumler, 55, Ione, was convicted of driv- ing while suspended. Fine $1,000. -Jordan T. Wright, 27, Heppner, was convicted of DUII. Fine $2,500. Justice of the Peace Diehl also reports that although the county is now at stage one, Justice Court is still open and functioning in both Heppner and Irrigon. Social distancing and masks are required. MCSD plans Zoom meeting Morrow County School District will hold their next board meeting Thursday, September 3 at 7 p.m. at Hep- pner Jr/Sr High School via Zoom.
