Heppner Gazette-Times, Heppner, Oregon Wednesday, November 6, 2019 -- NINE 4-H members, leaders receive awards The Morrow County 4-H program presented several prestigious awards during their annual awards program held October 20 at the SAGE Center in Board- man where there were more than 200 people attending. The county 4-H association collected donations from area citizens and businesses allowing them to present over $5,000 in awards. Alita Nelson with Barnyarders 4-H club in Heppner and Anna Browne of North Morrow Livestock 4-H club in Boardman were both recognized as the Mor- row County 4-H Leaders of the Year for 2019. Leaders are nominated and then voted on by club members and their families. The Becky Smith Memorial award goes to a Mustang cross country heads to state The Mustang boys’ cross-country team compet- ed last Friday in Pendleton, finishing second as a team at the 3A/2A/1A District 3 Championships. The top two teams and any runner in the top five who is not part of a qualifying team ad- vances to state, which will be held at Lane Community College in Eugene. Trevor Nichols and Madelyn Nichols will both be heading to state as indi- viduals. Joining Nichols at state will be teammates Colt Parker, Joseph Sherman, David Cribbs and Angel Velasco. The All-Around Achievement Award is de- signed to recognize the 4-H member who is involved in all aspects of 4-H. Require- ments for applying for this award include the following four categories: partici- pation in public speaking and demonstrations at the county contest held before fair, exhibiting projects at fair, completing and turn- ing in their record book and participating in an exit interview at the conclusion of the 4-H year. The award is broken down into the three age groups: junior, intermediate and senior. This award is a great ac- complishment in a 4-Hers career and is one that should receive special recognition for the hard work that the members put forth, not only in order to apply for, but also to receive. Inland Northwest Musicians will bring the Willow Creek Symphony to Heppner Elementary School Saturday, Novem- ber 9 at 4 p.m. for a free concert. The preparatory symphony will present their first concert of the season in Heppner. The Willow Creek Symphony will be direct- ed and conducted by R. Lee Friese and the new apprentice conductor Ash- ley Walchli. The program will feature Minuet from Symphony No. 17 by Jo- seph Haydn, Colour My World by James Pankow, Larghetto from Symphony No.2, OP. 36 by Beethoven and more Everyone is welcome to attend and refreshments will be served after the program. District Attorney’s Report Morrow County District Attorney Justin Nelson has released the following report: -Dalton Dale Booker, 29, was convicted of Failure to Appear in the Second Degree, a Class A misdemean- or, and was sentenced to 180 days in the county jail, suspended, 24 months bench probation with numerous special conditions of probation and was ordered to pay $200 in fines and fees. Community lunch menu St. Patrick’s Parish volunteers will serve lunch on Wednesday, November 13 at St. Patrick’s Senior Center. Lunch will be pork chops, wheat roll, mashed sweet potatoes, coleslaw with pineapple, green beans with tomatoes and grapes. Milk, coffee and tea is served at each meal.
