In support of Dave Gunderson To the editor, We are writing this let- ter in support of Dave Gun- derson for Heppner City Council position number five. Dave’s Heppner roots run deep as he and his wife were both raised in Heppner and they raised their boys here. One of his sons and his wife live in Heppner, as does his father. Dave taught many of our children during his 16 years at Heppner Elementary and he remains a dedicated supporter of our community. He is in- telligent, stays abreast of current events on all levels, and most assuredly, has Heppner citizens’ best in- terests at heart. Our city is facing tough issues that will require in- sightful leadership to move toward solutions. We be- lieve Dave is the best can- didate to help examine and problem-solve these issues. We hope you’ll join us in voting for him. Get a Screening Kit and Put Your Worries Behind You! Colon Cancer is the second most deadly form of cancer, but it doesn’t have to be. Screening can catch it early when it’s highly treatable. Unfortunately, too few men and women in Oregon are being screened. Everyone over 50 should be screened annually. RISK FACTORS: The risk is equal for men and women, and the risk increases with age, beginning at age 50. Other risk factors include • Family history of colon cancer • Diet: diets that are high in red and processed meats in- crease risk • Obesity and/or an inactive lifestyle • Alcohol and smoking ANNUAL SCREENING: Screenings with a FIT kit, which is a screening kit that can be done at home that checks for blood in the stool, should be done annually. Put your worries behind you! COST OF SCREENINGS: Most insurance plans cover 100% of screenings with no co-pays or deductibles. Even without in- surance, there are low cost options. HOW TO GET SCREENED WITH MORROW COUNTY HEALTH DISTRICT: Pick up a free screening kit at Pioneer Memorial Clinic, Ione Community Clinic, or Irrigon Medical Clinic and mail completed kits to Pioneer Memo-rial Clinic PO Box 9 Heppner, OR 97836 or drop off at the same pickup locations.
