Local business apologizes for mix-up To the editor, First, we would like to apologize to Dan and Teresa Wallace for the cancellation of their reservation. The truth is the mix-up was in our office. We had a va- cancy for the first time ever on St. Patrick’s weekend. As all in Heppner know, St. Pat’s is a very busy time. Those days were extra busy for us due to a family emer- gency. Most know Marcie was rushed to surgery and we thank God she did not lose her toes or foot and is now recovering. We do own the only motel in Heppner and try very hard to do it right. Hospitality is a standard we want to hold high. As far as our rates, we do not raise them for special events. In fact we have only raised our rates once ($5) in 15 years. We love our commu- nity and want everyone to have a good opinion of the only motel in town. Sincerely, Alvin and Lynda Liu Northwestern Motel & RV Park BMCC opportunities To the Editor, April is National Com- munity College Awareness month, and on behalf of the Blue Mountain Com- munity College Board of Education, I would like to take a moment to remind the community of the many opportunities BMCC has to offer. Remember, “commu- nity” is BMCC’s middle name. That means the col- lege makes every effort to tailor its programs and services to the unique needs of our eastern Oregon com- munity. That’s why you’ll find the new Workforce Training Center in Board- man, which offers an Indus- trial Systems Technology program to train workers to support the equipment used in manufacturing plants at the Port of Morrow. It’s also why you’ll find a 9-month certificate program for data center technicians in Boardman, of which 100 percent of graduates have landed jobs that pay more than $50,000 per year to start right in our local area. And it’s why students from anywhere across our 18,000-square-mile district can earn an entire associ- ate’s degree online or in one of our convenient regional centers. BMCC takes extreme pride in being an integral part of our eastern Oregon community. The college has strong partnerships with local K-12 schools, industry partners, govern- ment entities and others to support the region’s efforts to thrive and grow. BMCC is honored to host a wide variety of speakers, presen- tations and cultural exhibits throughout the year, includ- ing the upcoming annual Arts and Culture Festival the week of April 16 in Pendleton and Hermiston. To top it all off, BMCC has a very talented faculty and staff who work every day to put students first. Our students are the heart of BMCC and are the rea- son the college exists. Our employees are committed to student success and to helping students achieve their goals. So stop by a BMCC location to see what Blue can do for you. WCPD schedules meeting Obituaries Joshua Kenneth Herrig Joshua Kenneth Her- rig, Heppner, was born on Jan. 4, 1983 at St. Charles Hospital in Bend, OR to Maureen and Craig Herrig. He died on Wednesday, Mar. 21, 2018 in a single car accident on Highway 74, on his way to get dinner after work. He was the pas- senger and was not wearing his seatbelt. Josh was raised in Bend and went to Redmond High School. From the time he was 12 years old, he worked summers ranching in Hep- pner with his best friend. At age 17, he left home to pur- sue ranching and it became his lifestyle. He worked for Jon Flynn of Eight Mile Ranch for the last 17 years. According to a family member, Josh could do it all on the ranch, from cows to farming. If you could think up a job, he could do it and do it well. Ranching wasn’t his whole life, though. He en- joyed camping, hunting, fishing, riding horses (al- though he wouldn’t admit it), riding his motorcycle or anything fast and daring. He was a lover of animals, especially his dogs, and many have said that he “was kind, always happy, had a big heart, and always willing to help.” He is survived by his dogs Hank and Skid - der; mother, Maureen McNeill; fa- ther, Craig H e r r i g ; Joshua sister Jes- Kenneth sica Herrig; Herrig niece Skylar Morton and grandma Nata- lie Coons. He was preceded by death by two grandpas he loved dearly, Lauren Skeel and Kenneth Coons. Joshua’s celebration of life will be held at the Mor- row County fairgrounds in Heppner on Saturday, Apr. 7 at noon. The family wel- comes all in the community who knew him, all friends and family. There will be a potluck, so guests are asked to bring a dish to share. The dress will be casual, with the family asking if you have a terrible plaid shirt and a ratty ball cap, please wear it.
