In memory of Joan Sumner To the editor: Joan Summer was my first grade teacher in 1952- 53. Because of this beau- tiful woman, I couldn’t wait to go to school in the morning, to the point I never looked forward to Saturday. She instilled in me a love for education that has endured and magnified ever since. The memory of that lovely lady, I think all the little boys were smitten by her as I was, tenderly and graciously imparting the fundamentals of learning upon our impressionable souls will never be forgot- ten. So here’s a toast to all the wonderful teachers out there that have enriched our lives, so exemplified by the beautiful life of Joan Hisler Sumner. Stuart Dick, Irrigon Annual Chamber luncheon to be held January 18 The next Chamber lunch meeting will be the annual luncheon, which was moved from the first Thursday to the third Thursday to accommodate the Christmas and New Year’s holidays.
