Workman is deaf and a quadriplegic and lives in a rental home in Heppner. Area residents have started a GoFundMe campaign to help with the expenses involved in doing the neces- Lelia Workman sary upgrades. Workman was born with her hearing, but at age three her parents beat her until she lost her hearing. She lived in 38 foster homes in her lifetime, where at age 14 she climbed a tree and fell which caused her to become quadriplegic. Three years ago she lost her husband of 27 years and she has no family support. She volunteers her time teaching sign language in the community and can be seen traveling around town in her power wheelchair. Repairs to be done to her home include replacing her ramp and paving from the ramp to the street, adding better locks and outside lighting, fixing drywall, building shelving for her medications and possibly turning her bathroom into one that is handicapped accessible with a shower or walk-in tub. Sweet Productions Restaurant and Bakery, as well as other area businesses, have set up donation jars. During the Heppner Dance Troupe Christmas recital, donations will be accepted rather than charging for admission. Danc- ers will also be seen around town in Christmas costumes collecting donations. For those wishing to donate, the GoFundMe campaign can be accessed at https://www.go- fundme.com/lelia-project?pc=expt_em_co_ shareflow_m_89_2&rcid=r01-151196391174-e6e- 2b8d5fa0f40e6. shareflow_m_89_2&rcid=r01- 151196391174-e6e2b8d5fa0f40e6.
