To the Editor: Responsibility, trust, respect, honesty. Evidently, these words don’t mean much to some people today. I remember when these were qualities we valued, but not any- more. I am concerned with each of these, but I want to focus on two in particular with this letter: trust and honesty. We send support around the world and in our country when disaster strikes and we are warned to be sure the charities really help where we intend. When our friends and neighbors have tragedies, our local communities come together to help in any way we can. Use caution when donat- ing to local charities or accounts set up for specific needs, again, make sure the benefits will be received by who it is intended. I guess I am a “Pollyan- na” when it comes to help- ing those in need. I assume I am dealing with honest and trustworthy people. I trust that my donations are being used as I intended. When I find out that isn’t true, I get angry, frustrated and irri- tated. I do realize that when I give something it isn’t mine anymore. I won’t stop helping, but I will definitely check things out. I urge you to keep helping too, but ask questions.
