Heppner Gazette-Times, Heppner, Oregon Wednesday, October 11, 2017 HHS class of ’67 holds reunion The Heppner High School class of 1967 held their 50 th class reunion in Heppner over homecom- ing weekend, Sept. 22 - 24. Twenty-four classmates gathered Friday night, Sept. 22 to watch the Mustangs play Toledo in the home- coming game. A spokes- person indicated they were happy with the victory and enjoyed hearing the school fight song played many times over the evening. Jim Doherty, ‘67 football captain, pinned homecom- ing corsages on the ladies attending the game. Saturday morning, sev- eral classmates and spouses enjoyed a class walk and talk around town. Next was a tour of Heppner High School. All who went said the school looked great. Then it was on to Hager Park for some bingo, more fun and visiting. Saturday evening, the class had a nice dinner served by Patti Pap- pas at the Elks Club. Dur- ing the class meeting they heard speeches from Rick Johnston and Martha Peck Andrews. The Henchmen made a cameo appearance and played a few songs. John Cox and Jan Hager Evans gave toasts to the class and Alma Mater fol- lowed by the HHS fight song. The class voted to have another reunion in five years. Dennis and Peggy Snyder O’Donnell plan to host a 70 th birthday party at their home in 2019 for the class. Sunday morning, sev- eral classmates and spouses gathered as guests of Marty Boyajian Lieuallen and husband, Jim, for a sendoff before heading home. This was the best reunion ever was quoted by many at- tendees. “We couldn’t have done it without any of you. Thanks to you, one and all”, said class secretary, Roger Leonnig. Chamber lunch meeting Representative Greg Smith will be the speaker for the next lunch meeting of the Heppner Chamber of Commerce, to be held at noon on Thursday, Oct. 19, in Heppner City Hall conference room. Repre- sentative Smith will be giving an overview of the 2017 legislative activities and what he expects will be priorities for the 2018 State Legislature. Kimberly Lindsay will also be giving a quick in- troduction about Christo- pher Duffley, who will be performing a free concert sponsored by Community Counseling Solutions. The event will be held on Sun- day, Dec. 10 at 6:30 p.m. at Heppner High School Gymnasium. Cost of lunch is $10; Bucknum’s will cater. Chamber lunch attendees are asked to RSVP at 541- 676-5536. The meeting location is accessible to persons with disabilities. A request for an interpreter for the hearing impaired or for other ac- commodations for persons with disabilities should be made at least 48 hours be- fore the meeting to Sheryll Bates at 541-676-5536. PTC to hold school carnival The Heppner Elemen- tary Parent Teacher Club will host its annual school carnival at Heppner El- ementary on Oct. 26. The chili and baked potato din- ner will start at 5:30 p.m., with games from 6-7:30 p.m. There will be raffle prizes, a junk food walk, caramel apples and more. Paving happening this week Paving will begin this week on Main Street and Ella Road in Ione. Asphalt trucks will be moving between Lexington and Ione. Kick Off Meeting time: Monday, October 16th at 12:00 noon RSVP by October 13th call City Hall, 541-676-9618 or email heppner@centurytel.net Wheat Foundation scholarship offered The Oregon Wheat Foundation will provide up to twelve scholarships for high school seniors whose families are grower members of the Oregon Wheat Growers League. The scholarship is also open to students who work part-time for grower mem- bers. Students whose family members are employed by OWGL grower member are also eligible. The scholar- ship requirements include an essay on any topic relat- ed to the wheat industry and a summary of the student’s school and community in- volvement. One $1,000 award will be made to a qualifying stu- dent from each of the par- ticipating counties, which include Baker/Union, Gil- liam, Klamath, Malheur, Morrow, Sherman, Umatil- la, Wallowa and Wasco. In addition, up to two awards will be made in the Willa- mette Valley counties and one in the Central Oregon counties.
