Local youth learn to
‘move like a mammoth’
at library event
Heppner Lions Club holds annual
barbecue, meeting
Twenty-four children
and numerous adults at-
tended the Ione library’s
program “Move Like a
Mammoth” on June 21.
The interactive pro-
gram had the children jump-
ing like a saber-toothed cat,
crawling like a sloth, testing
wings like a giant bird, and
learning to walk with huge
tusks like a mammoth, in
addition to handling repli-
cas of ancient fossils from
animals that lived in Or-

sented by the University of
Oregon’s Museum of Natu-
ral and Cultural History,
and was sponsored by the
Ione Library District and
LEO (Libraries of Eastern
Oregon).
The Ione Topic Club
provided snacks.
The reading program
is Tuesday at 10 a.m. at the
Ione library. The children
can listen to a story, update
their reading logs and col-
lect prizes, and have snacks.

ing and providing of Morrow County Rodeo programs that the Lions Club sells each year. The club receives 100 percent of
the proceeds from the program sales, and the money is used for scholarships and other community projects. “We appreciate

trict Attorney Justin Nelson
has released the following
report:
-Heather Payne, 40,
was convicted of Theft II,
a Class A Misdemeanor. Of
the sentence of 180 days jail
time, 150 days were sus-
pended and the defendant
sentenced to 24 months
bench probation, to include
20 hours of community
service. Multiple counts
of Abuse of a Memorial to
the Dead were dismissed.
Fines, fees and assessments
totaled $100.
-Heather Payne, 40,
additionally was convicted
of Failure to Appear II, a
Class A Misdemeanor. Of
the sentence of 180 days jail
time, 160 days were sus-
pended and the defendant
sentenced to 24 months
bench probation, to include
20 hours of community
service. Fines, fees and as-
sessments totaled $100.
- Heather Payne, 40,
additionally was convict-
ed of Theft III, a Class C
Misdemeanor. Fines, fees
and assessments totaled
$50, with the addition of
$4.37 restitution to Sinclair
Gas Station, for a total of
$54.37.
